Ayers and Wolfe are the best Ends in the base D with the former on the split side and the latter on the tight side. Jackson seems a suitable backup for Wolfe and Beal for Ayers. Quanterus Smith seems more like a split side guy.

When the Broncos have their designated pass rushers in, one might reasonably expect to see Wolfe and Jackson inside on the DL.

Smith is coming off a late 2012 knee injury. The Broncos only became involved in his rehab since the draft. Beal went on IR at the end of August last year, so he has had longer rehab under team supervision. He has also had the benefit of observing JDR's schemes and film study.

The DE depth seems good and the TC battles will be fun to watch.

Until he had signed, it was a fair topic of discussion.

I was clearly not against considering him.

My assessment at this point......we need players to emerge in those first four games, or we may be expecting a little more out of Manning and company on O. Phillips will be very important to the pressure aspect of our game, because again, we have lost a lot of sacks going into the first four games of the season (if Von gets suspended), and the impact may spread into our entire D, including our ability to defend in the dbackfield this season.

My gut tells me that Woody, Phillips, Wolfe and Ayers will be solid, and I have some optimism that younger players will step it up......incl. Irving and Trevathan. But I do not believe our dbacks can get it all done without some serious pressure upfront. It all goes hand in hand. So.......unless we sign someone (not much left!) we need some good things to happen, and it won't hurt if Manning and Company light up the place for four games! After all, we may just need to hold opponents to 30 points a game....

Thanks to Elway and Co. this may be the best group of football players the Broncos have had going into TC. There are a lot of young players battling for roster spots. The result should be a deep team.

Never said it wasn't. Now that he's been signed though it kind of makes it pointless to discuss him correct?

You're probably right. I haven't seen much of Beal at RDE but I really liked what I saw from him at LDE. I know he bulked up a lot. Can't remember the exact weight but thought it was 280+. I'm still a fan of Malik at the 3-tech and if the coaches test him out there at all Unrein could be battling for his spot. I like Maliks versatility but I really do believe he is best on the inside. He could def pick it up behind Wolfe.

Jackson is currently listed as DE. At USC he played DE. When he transferred to Tennessee, he played both spots at first, but only DT his Senior Year. He was second team SEC DT then. We could see Jackson and Wolfe side by side as DTs on the pass rush package. The two can kick inside which helps them and gives an edge on others such as Unrein whom you mention.

A lot of fans just hate ayers because he represents mcdaniels tenure with the team and choose to not look at all the obstacles that have slowed his development.
                  Good post..

NOW we do now have to listen to those that want to spend every dime in Pats pocket.. JA is gone..

I have very few worries barring further injury that JDR will be able to conjure up schemes to pick up the sacks that Dooms departure will be missed, but his "other" part of his game will be an upgrade by most of these kids..

I don't think we will have to scheme to get sacks, there are some players who are going to get it done out there. I personally believe both Ayers and Wolfe finish the year with 10 sacks each!
