I agree that Byrd isn't affordable.

At this point, with the two young guys at safety, it just wouldn't be worth the picks and huge salary.

Guy is incredible in my opinion. The fact he isn't a household name (or at least a name that more football fans would find recognizable) is ridiculous. And Yes, to look back now these boards would've imploded if we took a 5'10 corner w 4.6 wheels. I didn't really watch any oregon games when he was playing so I had no idea he had the kind of instincts and smarts you need to make up for the size/speed deficiencies.

I'd love to have the guy but we don't have the skrill, pure and simple

I wanted Byrd this year, but the Bills franchised him. Next year he'll probably be available, and we could get him if we cut Welker. Welker is a great slot receiver, but we need to improve our running game and our free safety play more than we need to improve the slot receiver position.

Byrd is a good player but he won't be a broncos uniform anytime soon. Elway has invested a lot of $$ in the players we already have on the team. Welker will go nowhere for at least 2 years. Our run game will be just fine with MONTEE BALL (reminds Elway of TD) and that tinny little back Hillman coming in here and there to give BALL a breather. We will be just fine at safety as well with Q. CARTER (stud) and R. MOORE. In addition, Q. JAMMER will be in the mix as well. We need to cut Mike Adams and Joe Mays. Still don't understand why they are on the roster.. Once we get Clady signed to long term deal it will be on.

              He would cost too much.

I hope Elway doesn't do much in FA but tries to extend some of our own FA's and others due new deals in the coming years.

I'd trade Peyton Manning, He will be gone in a couple of years and we will still have Byrd. Plus with Mannings Salary gone we can Pay Byrd plus pick up another guy, maybe we can even pick up Marcell Dareus in the trade to boot.He was awesome last year and I still cant believe we didn't take him. We can give the reigns to Brock, he's had plenty of training now and Zac can back him up. I think KM will be much better with Broch anyway.

I like Montee Ball just fine. But to get to the Super Bowl we need great free safety play on passing downs, and for Ball to do his best we need an offensive line like Wisconsin's.

He ran a 4.47 at the combine

The only safety I would trade for is Kam chancellor but we may not need the big physical enforcer if the comments about Bruton are correct
A healthy Kenneth Dixon is a top 5 NFL RB.

This thread is about Byrd NOT chancellor..

Yeah and if we hadn't made that trade we could have drafted Earl Thomas the next year with the draft pick we gave the Seahawks. Imagine Earl + Jairus, it doesn't even matter that they're both free safeties. They are both well rounded safeties who could play at either spot.

Byrd wants top safety money, more than Weddle.

No way we could afford that even if he hit the market next year.

What about cutting Champ next year and sign Byrd with champs money. We then go CB in the first round of next years draft. To me studs are hard to find in the draft(luck is needed)whereas with Byrd we know he is good.As one stud leaves we welcome a new younger one with 10 years left in the game. Also hopefully DRC proves his worth this year and is resigned also.

Broncos' secondary is very deep right now. A starting caliber player may end up being released and the PS may be so good as to be raided by other teams during the season. Jairus Byrd is an impact player, but I don't think need is great enough to warrant the cost of acquiring and keeping him. Looks like the Broncos would like to grow their own secondary through the draft.
