  • Options at DE

With how we have been drafting we have a lot of directions we could go especially since Elway mostly drafts BPA we have a couple options we could go after in FA. I do believe that ayers will have a good year and will be back on another contract with us we may be able to target one of the bengals DE that will be FA this next year. Micheal Johnson and Carlos Dunlap have only one year left on their contracts and both are young talented DE that are just comig into their prime. If ayers doesn't work out I would like to take a stab at Dunlap who is built somewhat like Julius peppers, a big powerful DE who is deceptively fast.
A healthy Kenneth Dixon is a top 5 NFL RB.

I would love to have Dunlap on the Broncos DL but at least at this time have a hard time seeing it happen. First off Cincinnati will most likely push to resign him and the Broncos seem to like to use FA to mostly sign older vets to 1 or 2 year contracts. My guess is Dunlap will be looking more for a 5 year kind of contract. Now having said that the Broncos did go and do that with Vasquez this Off Season so it isn't completely out of the realm of reality. Part of it really could depend on the season that Dunlap has. If he has a great season then most likely he would price himself out from being a Bronco. If he has a mediocre season and the Bengals decide to move on then maybe just maybe he would be willing to sign a prove it kind of deal like DRC this Off Season.

Also looking at all the Contracts the Broncos are going to have to try and sign with the players we already have I just don't see the Broncos being big spenders at all this next Free Agency. Next Off Season will be all about keeping the talent that we already have on the roster. Plus my guess is they will be hoping that Quentarus Smith can be the man next year.

The only reason I believe Dunlap may be available is because they have Michael Johnson, Carlos Dunlap and Geno Atkins all up for new contracts.

I also don't think we will dip into FA at all, we will be resigning our own guys and continuing to build from within but it would be a nice option. We have Quanterus smith, Robert ayers and Malik Jackson who are all DE we are developing for the future

I can definitely see why he would be available but the Bengals do seem to have a ton of cap space still so I could see them having enough room to sign all 3.

Right now I am hoping 1 of those 3 really shows this season for the Broncos that they can be considered a quality starter in the NFL. Ayers has looked decent in spot duty but I am hoping a contract year and really last chance to show the NFL that he is a quality starter motivates him this season to really stand out. Jackson as much as I do like him I think he will be more of a rotation guy moving forward for the Broncos. Smith obviously is the intriguing one of how does he come back from injury and was his sack numbers more inflated mostly by the competition he went up against other than Alabama and can he be the next quality pass rusher opposite Von Miller. I'm really hoping 2nd half of the season that he gets more and more reps to really show off his skills.

The Broncos should just keep what they have at DE. A lot of young guys with potential and Ayers may be poised to break out.

I would have liked to spend like a 7th round draftpick on okoye

I will pass on a dude that has never played football, especially defensive line which takes years to master in the pros after already playing years in college

I have a lot of faith in Ayers and Smith! I sure hope that we got a steal in Smith, dudes looking really good in film let's hope it translates over to the pros! As for Ayers, his original position is at RDE. A position that has been held by an all pro until recently, a great defender in Elvis Dumervil (with exception of defending the run) but still with a player like that who could even fathom somebody else getting very much playing time. That'd be like Tuck sitting behind Strahan, hopefully we have the same outcome with much more production!!!

Just read on rotoworld that Dunlap and Johnson are competing for one extension. Would assume Hunt replaces one of them.

                  Obviously Atkins isn't going anywhere.

Not that we would get either since we will find it hard to keep our own talent in-house.

Cincy just extended Dunlap, 6 years 40 million base.

I still think Wolfe is going to beat out the competition for a starting DE spot

He already is the starting LDE. RDE, or weakside DE is the position that is somewhat up in the air.

i really like the idea of grabing michael johnson. kid has the size and speed. already shown he is an elite DE in the NFL. i see them tagging Atkins. or well i bet they will do anything to not let atkins get away. taking he is the best DT in the nfl. but johnson could be up for grabs and he'd be a hefty pay check but worth it.

They offered Johnson 5/40 and he declined. With our own FA's after this year cant afford it.

keeping ayers is probably gonna be the way to go. but johnson can still be a pipe dream
