  • Broncos meeting with Travelle Wharton

He is a career starter at tackle. What can this mean? Depth? Moving Franklin inside?

He played both guard and tackle when he was with Carolina. And just played Guard with Cincinnati. If he gets signed he'll most likely just be at Guard.

they could sign him as a backup and let Kuper or Clark go...saving a bit of money while still having a good backup at OG as well as OT. He may be a better option at OT than Clark.

There is no way Travelle freaking Wharton would take Franklin's spot

This probably means they are getting ready to let Kuper go

I dunno but I bet this guy would be interior depth

Has played guard and tackle for Fox's Carolina teams. Projects more so to guard. Is 32 and coming off a season ending knee injury. This would be a pure depth signing with familiarity. Maybe a replacement for Kuper.

Bronco OL depth revolves around Center. It depends on the status of JD Walton, whether he can play at some point this season and what his status will be when TC starts. If he is out, the versatility of the designated backup Center affects decisions on who the backup linemen will be.

Blake, Davis, Ramirez and Saulsberry are in the competition to be backup Center to Koppen if Walton misses the season. All except Saulsberry are listed as G/C, C/G.

Boren, Foketi, Garland and Kuper are listed as Guards. Clark, Cornick and Painter are listed as Tackles.

Wharton has started at G and T in the NFL. He missed the 2006 and 2012 seasons due to injury. He was coached by Dave Magazu at Carolina, and Fox & staff know him well.

Once Center depth is established, the ideal situation is to have one guy who can play LT/LG and one backup RT/RG; or, a backup T and a backup G. Adding Wharton to the mix would mean an even dozen guys fighting for one of three or four backup spots.

This actually makes the most sense...unless Kupe has truly recovered because he was simply worthless vs BAL...

He's now cancelled his visit, which sucks because I think he is a much better option at backup OT than Chris Clark. Wharton would also be the most versatile reserve OL due to his experience at OG.

If he does come here he is good depth and competition for mr. Beadles
