  • Your Top Overall Prospect to Look Out for in 2013

Who is your top overall prospect that you want to see for the 2013-2014 college football season? This is the guy you are most interested in seeing what they are going to do because either 1) you see them being available at our pick in the 2014 draft 2) even though they could be gone before our pick, you think they would fit extremely well in our offensive/defensive system or 3) you just have a general interest in the player overall.

Also, who is the top overall 2014 free agent that you are most interested in seeing what they do this upcoming season?

    My Top Overall College Prospect:
    Name: CJ Mosley
    Position: Middle linebacker
    School: Alabama
    Height: 6-2
    Weight: 235
    2012 Statistics: 107 total tackles, 4 sacks, 1 INT
Why He Fits: Mosley would fit much better in a 4-3 than he would in the 3-4 he currently plays in, yet he still makes play after play in the most crucial moments. I could easily see him exceeding 150 tackles with 3-5 sacks a year along with 2-3 INT per year. I'm really high on him (and not just because he plays at Alabama). More than likely, the Broncos would have to trade up 6-10 spots to be able to get Mosley which means it may not happen, but I would LOVE to see Mosley in orange and blue in the fall of 2014.

My Top Overall NFL FA Prospect:
    Name: Greg Hardy
    Position: Defensive End
    Current Team: Carolina Panthers
    Height: 6-4
    Weight: 290
    2012 Statistics: 61 total tackles, 11 sacks, 2 FF
Why He Fits: I love Greg Hardy, and I'm sure the Carolina Panthers do too. The problem lies in their cap situation and for that reason, Hardy might actually hit the open market. I believe he would fit in great with our aggressive style defense and could actually turn out to be a more all around complete players than Doom was the last few years playing in our 4-3. Hardy is a bit inconsistent, but he has made strides in that category and continues to get better year after year. Hardy would do great things in Denver.

I'm looking forward to A.J. Johnson (MLB Tennessee) and Barr (DE UCLA).

I would have to go with OC Travis swanson out of Arkansas. I see that position as the biggest weakness right now. Walton is not guaranteed to come back, or to be re-signed for next year so I think they have to be looking at other options.

Swanson plays in a Zone based running scheme which fits what they are trying do here in denver, I believe they are trying to run more zone plays anyway.

For the same reasons mentioned above, Fernando Velasco would be my FA choice.

As far as which player I will watch most closely...Ka'deem carey...RB out of AZ. Leading rusher last year and want to see him do it again. Odds are he won't be a Bronco but I am hoping he has another great season and shoots up draft boards, if he comes out as a junior.

If we lose Woodyard, we HAVE to get this guy. My favorite prospect right now.

Love Shazier, he's a mid to late first rounder for me as of right now.

Will Sutton might be the best at hand fighting I have seen of a defensive linemen in years. Only issue is, he was listed at 6'1 267 last year and now he is listed at 6'1 288 and we know that college football programs are somewhat generous with their measurements. So is he really up to 288 is my first question. My second question is, how will he play at that weight? The most he ever weighed was freshman year at 275. I think his instincts, feel for the game and hand fighting will be enough to keep him productive and we would like to assume he would be more productive being at a higher weight but will he be as explosive? Really looking forward to seeing how he plays at that weight if that is in fact what he showed up to camp at. I think Sutton drops in the draft regardless because he is such a small guy with short arms, a fair amount of GM's get caught up in over-analyzing arm length and height.

I'm not sure Sutton was 271 last year, I think he might have gained weight as the year went on. He just looked a little bigger out there on the field than that. Their coach seems to believe he can carry 305. He claimed they knocked a whole lot of bad weight off of him and that was why he got so low. Either way I can't wait to watch him this year

                lol just saw this

Ohio State junior OLB Ryan Shazier received a seventh-round to undrafted free agent preseason label from draft insider Tony Pauline.

We are shocked, but it is never a bad thing to read a view point that goes against conventional wisdom, even if this one is on the opposite end of the spectrum. Shazier is an "athletic weak-side linebacker prospect best in pursuit or chase and run," writes Pauline. "Offers skills in coverage but must improve his strength." Many will look at Shazier's lean build as a negative, but we think his ability to use length to keep distance is a major advantage. Also, the NFL is valuing prospects like Shazier at a much higher rate compared to just a few years ago.
                What?! 7th-UDFA?

Same thing happened with Woodyard. Too small to play LB.

Well I know one guy who I'm not planning on listening to any draft analysis from. That's hilarious.

He's only going to get better and he had 115 tackles, 17 tackles for a loss, 5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 3 qb hurries, 12 pass deflections. Second leading tackler on Ohio State had 71 tackles. He has things to work on but what player going into his junior year doesn't? Just silly. The kid is a beast.

His height and weight are a real worry, he's too small weight wise right now to even play UT against NFL offensive lineman and his height doesn't fit the mold you look for as a 5tech DE. He most likely will slide in the draft and will definitely be one of those guys that is going to need a couple years before he hits his potential.

One guy I absolutely love watching is Kyle Van Noy from BYU. He was CFB second leading sack guy and was 4th I believe in TFL. Hes a full blown utility player that can can cover, beat guys off the line, and hes a ball hawk when tracking runners and QBs. He might not be the top prospect like the thread asks, but I think he has the potential be a special player.
Hes a first rounder next year and if he can add about 15 lbs to that frame I think he can be a difference maker in the NFL. I see a bit of Clay Matthews in him.

As for FA I really like Sean Lee from Dallas. I doubt the Cowboys let him test the waters, but I really like him at LB and could be a big FA pickup for someone if Dallas doesnt pay up.

No question. Not even up for debate. I am curious to see how Yeldon does behind that new Bama o-line tho

I'm not so sure that Alabama players will carry the same weight as the last couple years with how many highly touted players haven't lived up to expectations.
