  • Salary cap and ability to re-sign core players

Here is where we stand (estimating based off 123MM cap):

    2014

Current cap number for 2014 = $116,220,093 (This is with DRC voiding contract and dead money). So we are about 7MM under cap for 2014.

    Biggest cap savers:

Champ = 10M (would suggest lowering to 6M)
    Kuper = 4M
    Tamme = 3M
    Big Vick = 3M
    Dressen = 2.5M

Key Free Agents 2014 (guys I feel contribute heavily):

    UFA
    Zane Beadles, G
    Shaun Phillips, DE
    JD Walton, C
    Wesley Woodyard, LB
    Eric Decker, WR
    DRC, CB
    Robert Ayers, DE

    RFA
    Chris Harris, CB
    Tony Carter, CB
    Mitch Unrein, DT

    ERFA
    Trindon Holliday, KR
    Duke Ihenacho, S
    __________________________________________________ ____

Current cap number for 2015 = $69,624,124 (plus what ever FA we sign in 2014) save another 6.4M if Kuper cut in 2014.

    Free agents

    UFA

    Champ
    Von Miller
    Wes Welker
    Jacob Tamme
    Joel Dreessen
    Knowshon Moreno
    Demaryius Thomas
    Kevin Vickerson
    Terrance Knighton
    Rahim Moore
    Orlando Franklin
    Nate Irving
    Quinton Carter
    Julius Thomas
    John Moffitt
    Virgil Green

    RFA
    Steven Johnson
    Aaron Brewer
    Adrian Robinson

We definitely have the ability to re-sign our own if we cut lose some guys and should be able to do it again in 2015.

    Disagree on Walton.

ManRam has been great and makes him expendable, draft a C in the first few rounds.

I would cut Tamme and Kuper which frees up around 6-7 mil that can go to Woody.

And try to keep Decker, SP, and Ayers.

Everyone else is expendable on next years FA.

The year after is scary though which is why I'd hope Elway/Sullivan work on new deals for guys in 2015 which a lot of guys are due big deals.

I do agree we should ask Champ as well as Manning to take a paycut to free up some money to keep the core intact.

I still stand by the fact that once we win a superbowl champ will retire. So potentially this year we will have 10 mil off the books right away. He has nothing left to prove and I think he is seriously done with camp and injuries and can ride off into the sunset as one of the greatest to ever play CB.
      So far:
      FA- Melvin Gordon. Brandon Scherff
      1. Kenneth Murray LB; 2. Shenault WR; 2B. Biadazz Center, 3. OT

I don't think JD will cost all that much to keep, so why not? A two year deal is fine...good depth. Added DRC to list of UFA.

I wouldn't be surprised if we don't re-sign J.D. I can see him signing with Jacksonville, they will have a need for a Center since I highly doubt they re-sign Brad Meester. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Jags show interest in Beadles, Kuper, Tamme and Caldwell.

Because we have other needs than a backup C?

Can't keep everyone, what's wrong with drafting a C to groom under ManRam?

Ild rather have a C in the draft then keeping Walton whose shown to have a lack of a leadership athleticism endurance or long arms to be a successful starter in the NFL and when it comes to backup C's ild rather have one that we could feel comfortable filling in if ManRam goes down.

We can get Swanson or Larsen in the 2nd or 3rd right now and are looking like the type we need. I prefer the latter because hes shown great intelligence but Swanson is more athletic. We dont even need to go that far if we feel comfortable at starting C, Stork is a 4th rounder and if he falls that far we can get Richburg who has been good at this elevation which in all honesty is hard for a lineman

I think if we were to win, and Manning decides to go for two, he would stay. Outside of that, I think Decker is the only real key player on the bubble. I would love to see Moreno get an extension but it looks rather unlikely. I'm willing to give them time to develop but I'm not stoked to go into the Oz era with just Ronnie and Montee. He's been the ultimate team player so far, so there's always the chance he'd do a reasonable deal. I don't really feel that Phillips, Walton, or Carter are critical must-signs. Phillips possibly, but it depends on the off-season that Q Smith has for me.

Need about 19M in cap to re-sign Ayers, WW, Decker, Harris, DRC, and Phillips. Holliday and Duke wont effect cap as ERFA as they will be tendered near min.

From there we could look at Beadles, JD, and Carter vs FA and draft...all comes down to contract demands.

Harris wouldn't count on next years cap since he's a RFA, same with Carter.

I would hope they try to extend him along with others though.

Phillips depends if he's asking for a lot or would take another cheap one year deal to make another run.

Ayers, WW, DRC, and Deck will cost a hefty penny though. If I had my way, I'd keep those 4 and SP, everyone else is gone of the UFA's.

Gonna need to release some guys, notably Tamme and Kuper, and ask Champ to restructure, maybe Manning too.

                          JD replaced in draft.

                          Beadles by Moffitt or draft.

Carter brought back or traded/cut with the emergence of Webster.

I know people love decker but seriously if the dude doesn't stop fumbling and doesn't stop dropping passes he won't be resigned. Guys go through rough patches but this is a ongoing problem with decker and he hasn't shown much improvement unlike demaryius who has developed into a legit number 1 go to receiver
A healthy Kenneth Dixon is a top 5 NFL RB.

I've said before it really depends on the price and how much hes asking for. On the fumbles, he hasn't fumbled that much outside of last game.

You said it with the drops, he has been dealing with the shoulder problem that may hurt that.

I'd still keep him as long as he's not looking for #1 money.

Everyone would agree that DT is better but there is enough to keep both.
