  • Jared Allen

What do you think it would take to trade for Jared Allen?

Minnesota is out of the hunt, total rebuilding mode. Allen is in the final year of his contract and the Vikings gave an extension to his opposite defensive end. The Vikings plan to move on without him at the end of the season and plug in promising Everson Griffen.

Jared Allen is a well rounded DE who can get to the QB with the best of them. I understand it might be a half year rental on the man, but is it worth it. Do we have the cap space to take him on for the rest of the year?

Don't have the cap room to take on 1/2 his salary.

Jared Allen is contracted for $14.3-Million. I can only think of the Geico Caveman commercial where he is ordering lunch and says, "yea, well maybe next time do a little research".

We dont have the cap room for his contract unless they ate some of it, which we'd have to give up a higher pick.

        Other words, aint happening.

Could he agree to restructure for a lower amount knowing that now he has a contract with a SB caliber team

4th or 5th round pick but unless he would take a massive paycut it won't happen I think we have a better shot at landing Jason Babin from Jacksonville 2012 ProBowler who's making only around 4m

Honestly, I would give up a 2nd rounder if Minnesota would eat some of his contract. Babin sounds nice too, we need a passrusher badly!

Is there a way we could make it conditional, on the fact that he resigns with us at the end of the year?

A 2nd rounder sounds like a lot for a handful of games.

I'm sure we could. We could also send a conditional pick based on performance.

I did see on nfl.com that he be a good fit for us. But we would have to drop another DE to make space for him, Who would it be? Malik? Ayers? Phillips? i would keep Phillips maybe drop ayers or malik.

I wouldn't get rid of neither bc they can both play inside on passing downs I would try to trade one of our TE's or drop one of the many olinemen or DB's that we don't play each week

You drop a DB or a LB (see. Lennon, Jammer). Both Malik and Ayers play inside, in fact Malik is being molded more as a UT. Phillips can play linebacker and end and is the sack leader.

Believe me, if it happens last thing Del Rio would do is complain about having too many DEs.

Jared Allen's cap number is 14 million, but after SNF and 7 games, his number should be down around 8 million. If I'm not mistaken that's low enough for him to fit in our cap space.

Send them a 3rd round pick, conditional to a 2nd if he signs a long term deal at the end of the season.

Broncos should offer a 1st rounder for Jared Allen and get back a 3rd or 4th

Yes, it seems like a high price to pay but hear me out.

It is rare to find a guy that fits your system to a tee and can beat 1-on-1s a lot of times. I still believe Jared Allen has a few years left in his tank if placed next to a good set of DTs in the middle.

To beat the best QBs in Brady, Luck, Rodgers, Brees, you will need that pass rush. Jared Allen will be a huge boost for this team for the next few years if acquired.

Vikings are re-building. You can win with middle of the road RBs, Steelers, Packers, Saints, Giants etc. but you CANNOT win without stopping the pass in the current NFL, and recent playoff trends show us that. Jared Allen will help with that, IMO.

Nope that's too much. It should be a second or a third + player.
