  • Pre Combine Denver Mock Draft

    1) Calvin Pryor: Safety is one position where we need an upgrade. Pryor gives us a good athlete, who can play both the run and in coverage. Even if there is another BPA at a position of need, I think we should go this route, as the safety class doesn't wow me.

    2) Shayne Skov: Lots of people don't believe he will be here when we pick. I disagree MLB is a position that has slides from where people believed they were going to go. Malaluga, Teo, Hightower. If he last we should snag him. I like him as a two down LB with Woodyard coming in during the nickel sets. Not to mention Skov has a knack for making plays, something we could use.

    3) Best WR Avaliable: This is very hard to project. I think we offer Decker but don't over pay like someone will. This WR class is very very deep. We will have options between 2-3 WR's with very nice grades at this pick, mark my words.

    4) Aaron Colvin: Would love Fuller at this spot not convinced he makes it too us. So I'm going Colvin. A late 2nd round talent who is going to miss a lot of time next year. Which will work out well for us. DRC, Harris, Champ on a reduced contract, and Webster hopefully taking a step forward can hold down fort for one more year to develop a guy. Hopefully we can add a free agent to the mix as well.

    5) Aaron Lynch: World of ability, but yet to come close to it. He's got the height, length, and athleticism, but needs to add a little bit of weight. We lack a severe pass rush outside of Von. Hopefully Q Smith can step up this coming year. I see Lynch as a strictly 3rd down DE early, who could develop into an everydown starter.

    6) Seantrel Henderson: Production doesn't match talent. Maybe he doesn't have the proper coaching, maybe he doesn't have the work ethic. I like him as a guard. He struggles in space as a tackle, With the size, and strength he might pan out inside. He's athletic enough to be effective pulling, and in the screen game as well.

    7) James Morris: Our MLB position is thin. Irving, Skov in this draft, Woodyard in a pinch. This is a flyer, depth pick. 4 year starter at a college that produces lots of fundamentally sound defensive players. Experienced, and instinctive, I question is athleticism, but worth a chance as a 7th rounder.

    early mock draft

Here is my attempt at my first ever pre-combine Denver Broncos Mock Draft! I would love to hear everyones opinions and thoughts.

    RD 1- Ryan Shazier- LB
    RD 2- Kyle Fuller- CB
    RD 3- Marcus Smith- DE
    RD 4- Devin Street- WR
    RD 5- Deion Belue- CB
    RD 6- Kadeem Edwards- G
    RD 7- Dri Archer- RB

I think that in this draft we end up with a starting MLB, #2 CB, a RE with potential to start right away, a # 2 WR, a Potential starting guard, as well as that explosive line up anywhere type of weapon that I think we really need. I would also like to go after T.J. Ward at the safety position in Free Agency

If Shazier can handle MLB this is a very good draft. Fuller may or may not be there at our choice in the second. I know very little about Street or Edwards but over all, the draft looks pretty good.

        Advanced Stats Mock Draft

The basic premise behind this post is to see where our weakest links are, by position, utilizing advanced stats. The site I used for this is http://www.advancednflstats.com. Typically, I never use this in terms of creating a mock draft, though I have paid attention to advanced stats in regards to basketball, as I'm also an NBA fanatic. Some may question the merit of these stats but they provide a deeper insight into the play of individuals and also our team. Also using http://www.walterfootball.com for a list of prospects, scouting reports, and prospect meetings, I'll try to be as unbiased and potentially accurate as possible regarding this mock draft. Some of you may wonder why I have so many mocks, and the answer is two-fold but simple. I love the Broncos and mock drafts have become something of a hobby for me since joining this forum a few years back. Now, without further ado.

I like most of this draft, just not sure about Purifoy, haven't seen or heard a lot about him.

              My mock offseason

Well, the superbowl sucked. But it's time to move on. This offseason is gonna be a tough one.

This is how I see it happening.

              Free Agency

              Release: Champ, Dressen, Kuper

We need to free up money for more important free agents.

              Signings:

Kenny Britt- This guy is only 25 years old, and has massive upside. He will come cheap, because of his injury issues. I see him replacing Decker.

MJD- Give him a one year contract to show what he's got.

Don't resign: Moreno, Decker, Woodyard, Lenon.

I would love to keep Decker and Moreno but it is simply impossible due to our salary cap situation. Moreno should be replaced by Ball well, who looked really good the second part of the season. The rest of the players are not so hard to replace.

Resign: Zane Beadles, Chris Harris, DRC, Mike Adams, Shaun Phillips, Mincey, Caldwell

These players are harder to replace, which is why I believe we should keep them over others.

              Draft

              1-DE KONY EALY-Missouri

DE is one of our biggest needs, this guy would do great opposite of Von.

              2-CB KYLE FULLER-Virginia Tech

A big, very physical and a solid tackling cornerback. Would do great opposite of DRC.

              3-S DION BAILEY-USC

A strong, speedy safety who can defend both the run and the pass. Would do great at SS next to Rahim.

              4-ILB LAMIN BARROW-LSU

This guy is a great run stopper. He may not be the best pass defender, but he can improve. I see him fighting with Irving for the MLB spot.

              5-RB DE’ANTHONY THOMAS-Oregon

A very fast man. I see him as a returner. Maybe a few carries a game as well. Depth for running back.

              6-TE JAKE MURPHY-Utah

A big target who can add good depth in the tight end position.

              7-G CHRIS BURNETTE-Georgia

Another depth addition to the O-Line.

I like the basics of what you done I really like the first 3 rounds of your draft but see limited probability that they will be there when the Broncos draft..In your free agency section the amount of signings and cuts is very limited to what actually happens on any giving in year..I would only worry about Harris,DRC in free agency..With that it should give the Broncos more freedom to sign a couple starting caliber players in free agency ..

Depending on what Beadles is asking the Broncos can save a lot money by switching to Geico here and spend it in other ways to lock him up with contract similar Kup's I think would be a big mistake ..

                  ESPN McShay and Kiper Mocks

I dont have insider, so if someone does could they please post the newest mocks from these two dopes. I usually dont care what these two have to say, but I am really interested this year for some reason. This years draft seems to be more of a toss up than any in recent memory.

Harris is a restricted free agent. We can tender him with a first, the 1 year deal that goes along with it is like 1.3 Mil i believe. And match a contract, or take the 1st round. Do you really think another team will give us a 1st for a player with a torn acl?

In other words, there's nothing to worry about with Harris.

McShay has us taking Jason Verrett and says this... The Broncos' top need is offensive tackle, but in this scenario, with six already off the board in the first 27 picks, there isn't one worth taking at No. 31. They'll also need to address wide receiver and tight end at some point this offseason with Eric Decker a free agent and Demaryius Thomas and Julius Thomas set to become FAs after next season. But the best player available at a position of need in this scenario is Verrett. He lacks size, but he's the quickest man-to-man cover corner in this class and plays really tough. He reminds me a bit of Antoine Winfield.

Kiper has us taking Bradley Roby and says this... It wasn't their undoing in the Super Bowl -- that would be Seattle's defense -- but the Broncos need to add talent and speed in particular to their defensive backfield. In terms of raw speed, you won't do much better than Roby in this draft, and he's physical despite being slightly less than ideally sized. Roby is a quick-twitch athlete with fluid hips, can press or play off and can recover on any separation to make plays on the ball. Denver needs help, even with Chris Harris coming back.

I like Kiper's choice better and like his explanation better. I keep seeing this come up and Daniel Jeremiah has the same thing in thinking Offensive Tackle is our biggest need. Am I missing something? I understand guard possibly being a need and maybe taking an OT and putting them at guard but the actual Tackle position? Do they know something we don't that the Broncos are actually thinking about moving Franklin to guard making an opening for a Tackle? Even then I wouldn't mind seeing what Clark could do on the right side rather than using a 1st round pick on a position that might see the guy riding the bench.

I am concerned with your Round 3 pick which has traditionally been a real issue for the Broncos. Some of our biggest issues have been powering through the D-Lines. If we are going to want to make it and beat the NFC divisions we will need to get a guy who is stronger/ faster right now to beat teams. After seeing tape and reading multiple reviews of in-game play both strength and hands are a concern for Marcus Smith.

In my mock draft I have us taking a RB/ Utility Player/ returner in the 3rd. Archer or Thomas (we need three Thomas'. just to mess with the announcers)

OT as our top need........ OOOOOKAAAAAAYYYY McShay! Cool story bro. Clady is an All-Pro type talent when healthy, Franklin struggles occasionally against speed rushes but is a very solid starting RT, and Chris Clark just proved all year that he may be the best backup OT in the league. In fact, he would be a starter on many other teams. Plus we drafted Vinston Painter last year and the FO likes his potential. That claim is just about the stupidest thing I've heard in a while.

CB, DE, and MLB are all much, much, much bigger needs than OT.
