This will be my last mock offseason of the year. This offseason will be huge for us to take the next step. In 2012 we lost in the divisional round of the playoffs. In 2013 we went all the way to the Super Bowl. We did lose that game in historic fashion. Below are the steps I believe will help us tae the next step, winning a championship. With the increase in salary cap duet exceed $130M, I cant see why we cant get all o these FAs. Without further ado:
Restructure:
Champ Bailey - He is du around $10M this year. He is by no means worth that kind of money at his age. If we can keep him for around $3M and play him at S and/or NCB, I would be all for it.
Leaves in Free Agency:
WR Eric Decker - I believe he has priced himself out of Denver. He stated he will do what is best for his family...telling me he will chase the money.
RB Knowshon Moreno - He also has priced himself out. We can find a cheaper replacement.
OG Zane Beadles - He was the weak link in our OL for years. He lucked himself into a Pro Bowl vote. Say goodbye to this guy.
DE Robert Ayers - He will get bigger money elsewhere. He was a great rotational player while here, but I really believe he will get paid a little more elsewhere.
LB Wesley Woodyard - With Trevathan's emergence, Woody has become expendable. Woody cannot play the Mike so he walks.
Free Agent Signings:
MLB D'Qwell Jackson: This will be a huge signing for us. Per NFL.com he is scheduled to meet with us as well. He didn't play as well as expected in 3-4 line ups, but is a stud 4-3 MLB.
CB Dominque Rogers-Cromartie - Re-signing him is priority number 1 IMO. He was stud for us, and we better keep him.
DE Shawn Phillips - Sign him to a 1year deal again. He was a huge piece of our defense last year. No reason not to bring him back.
DE Michael Johnson - Signing this guy will do wonders for our DL. He had a down year, but will bounce back in our front. With Phillips and Johnson playing on our DL, and Miller lined up as a Sam, our DL can finally produce consistent pressure IMO.
DE Jeremy Mincey - Another 1 year deal guy. He is familiar with the scheme and has played well with JDR.
OG Travelle Wharton - Can star immediately at LG. A slight upgrade form Beadles IMO at a cheaper cost.
RB Maurice Jones-Drew - I am still of the mindset he is the perfect RB for our offense. He is one of the best pass pro guys, and is great in the passing game in general. He is another aging cheap option to rotate in with Ball.
NFL Draft:
***TRADE*** I believe we can and should trade down to around 33-40. Teams like Hou, Jax, Minn, Tampa, Oak, and Cle will likely be in the market for a QB such as Carr, McCarron, or Garoppolo. We should be able to fetch a 4th in the trade.
2nd - WR Jordan Matthews - Matthews is the perfect candidate to replace Decker IMO. This guy catches everything, and he ran faster than expected at the combine. Matthews is my man crush this year (within reach).
2nd - CB Keith McGill - Reminds me a lot of Richard Sherman. He is tall and raw, but with coaching can be a top CB in the league.
3rd - Dominique Easley DT - He is the perfect UT. If it weren't for injuries, he would be a 1st round pick. There is no reason to rush him into action given the play of Jackson. If we can get him healthy, he can come in fresh for the later part of the season/playoffs.
4th - MLB Prince Shembo - He had a good combine, and looks the part of a perfect Mike in the 4-3. With the signing o Jackson in FA, Shembo will be a depth signing leaving Irving to be depth to Von (which he did great).
4th - CB Jaylen Watkins - The Florida CB had a better combine than his Florida counterparts. Some may say we don't need another CB, but I disagree. DRC may not play much longer, and Chap is best suited for S or retirement. So with Harris, Webster, DRC, and Watkins I would be fine with that CB group.
5th - WR Jalen Saunders - Yes, we doubled up on CB and WR. Saunders will replace Welker next year. Welker is getting expensive, and with 1 year learning from the greatest slot WR ever, Saunders wont skip a beat.
6th - FB JC Copeland - A pure road grader. MJD had his best years behind a FB. A FB could help the offense in the RZ and goal line. We have had issues in that area.
7th - OC Gabe Ikard - Pure depth signing.
