  • Poll - Best use of Cap

Just feel like there is only a few FAs worth the money it will take to land them. My favorite target, Hardy was tagged.

So how do you feel we can best spend the cap money we have?

Lock up guys - leaves money to sign cheaper FAs to plug holes, then rely on draft

Spend Big on secondary would be the Byrd/TJ and a pricey CB

Bring back our own, which is offensive and use a few cheap defensive signing and draft for defense.

Lock up DT, JT, Moore, and others long term

You should add spending money on a pass rush. I believe thats the easiest way to hide a weak secondary (Which we clearly have)

We can spend money in FA and still lock up DT and company.

I dont believe it's weak, provided DRC is brought back.

And depending what happens at SS.

There's no point extending guys who are still under contract IMO. The salary cap is expected to jump another 10 million or so next year, so that will help us with the money aspect. Sure, if we did it this year we'd have tons of cap room next season, but we'd be handcuffing what we can do right now. I think we should spend the money on our defense and continue to push as best we can while we still have the Peyton Manning window of opportunity for a Super Bowl. Bring back DRC or sign some other top FA CB. Sign a legitimate starting DE with pass rush skills. Maybe also push for a upgrade at Safety.

But in the end, I trust John Elway. He has absolutely crushed it since being hired by the Broncos, and I believe he knows what's best for the franchise and will get it done.

I think signing DT, Von, JT, etc would go a long way to make us better. However, we still need to be very active this year in FA. Like Berlow said, the cap is expected to go up significantly over the next few years.

              1. Make the pass rush elite and able to handle NFL level injuries...need depth
              2. Pay the players we have who are elite, Harris, DT, JT (make sure healthy)...herd we have a option to use on Von..do that.
              3. Keep doing what we are doing...if we KNOW the guy will be elite in our system pay them...if not give them team friendly contracts

Note on 2...we may want to look into extending contracts for people becoming free agents next year. Not sure how many we can lock up with franchise and transition tags but it would suck to see a player we know walk because we let them hit the market. When we were winning Super Bowls and a player would get their first breakout season we would extend their contract but nothing too crazy...maybe bump JT's contract but make it a 2 or 3 year deal. I know we did this with TD and Rod Smith before they got their big contracts.

I would have if I thought there was an elite pass rusher to spend the money on. Allen is probably the best pass rusher on the market, but not sure with his age if he will be a major investment, or should be. IMO, the draft will be our best shot at an elite pass rusher.

The point would be to lock them up before they have a chance to test the market. Just like we see in Byrd, wanting to lock a guy up and him signing are two different things. I think players are more likely to sign if you are giving them the security now vs playing a year and risking injury.

There is zero point in extending guys this year. We need to be thrifty in FA though so that we allow ourselves to extend those guys this time next year. If we are to spend money in FA though, I agree pass rush would be ideal. I like the idea of bringing in Allen.

I would love to bring in Allen, but as I've said before, as strictly a backup. He won't have the luxury of going up against UDFA at left tackle outside of the NFC north. He should be a rotational backup

I say we first cut Joel Dreessen and Chris Kuper, which would free up about $35 million in space.

Then re-sign DRC to a 3 year deal worth about $7-8 mil per year, which would put us down to about $28 million.

Also re-sign guys like Phillips, Caldwell, and Mincey. That should put us at about $21-23 million.

Sign SS TJ Ward to a deal worth $7 million a year. The cap is now at around $15 million.

Sign a DE. Michael Bennett or Michael Johnson. Whichever one we land will probably receive about $7 million per year.

Then with whatever cap left, we could sign depth players. One player whom I think we can sign for cheap is Andre Roberts who can beat out Andre Caldwell for a starting role (with Welker in the slot). The only reason we re-sign Caldwell (for about $1 mil on a one-year deal) is that he played well down the stretch of last season, and provides good depth.

CB Free Agency Market has been set high.

The market has been set n it's pretty high.
CB Brent Grimes- 4yr $32mil, $16 mil guaranteed
CB Sam Shields- 4yr $ 39Mil, $12.5 mil signing bonus

Looks like DRC is gonna cost us.
I expect A. Verner to get the most money.

Thats why I like to sign before FA. Why cant we set the market instead of waiting.
