  • Broncos Sign TJ Ward

According to the Denver Post, the Broncos are expected to pursue free agent SS T.J. Ward when the market opens Tuesday.
As we suspected. Denver is needy at strong safety, and Broncos exec Tom Heckert drafted Ward in Cleveland. The Broncos also have quite a bit of cap (roughly $25 million) for a team commonly perceived as old. Ward turned 27 in December. He is a difference-making run defender and not a liability in coverage.

A premier SS, just like most have said we needed
A healthy Kenneth Dixon is a top 5 NFL RB.

      Makes alot of sense.

For some reason I thought Ward was around 6'2 but he's Mike Adams size. I guess size doesn't matter when you can crack people like he does.

I really hope we get Ward. Him and Moore will be a great tandem

According to PFF he is a very good safety and best vs the run

Will edit his ratings in when I get home.

edit - put PFF stats in

            FYI on PFF ratings 2013

TJ Ward rates overall 3rd best safety, 12th coverage, best run defender at safety

i really don't like the description "not a liability" in coverage. not a ringing endorsement.

Truth be told they did not do him a favor by saying that, but it isn't too far off. he is a good SS in coverage, but it's not like it's where he will make his money. He is an outstanding enforcer that is also pretty good in coverage.

Ward was the 3rd highest ranked safety according to PFF, graded out a +14.5. High numbers and consistent across the board.

I follow Cleveland almost as closely as the Broncos. Ward is actually pretty solid in coverage ("not a liability" sums it up) and he'd be an upgrade over Duke.

It would be a great way for the Broncos to kick off FA.
