  • $40 mill in the cap space right now next year not including the increase or the fact that we still have $8 mill to spend this year. That can still go a long way considering thats more then we had before the start of this FA

We will likely tender DT and depending on cost may let Carter go and negotiate some kind of deal with Harris if he decided to not test the market

    • I said this about a month ago that we should get him. That dude is a monster when healthy and he would team up great with thomas. I say we get him for cheap

          • I've always loved Britt's potential. He just seems to always ruin it for himself.

I like the idea, but it is a big question mark. One that I'm not so sure Elway would go for.

            • I like the idea. Something with performance escalators and a low base salary would be ideal. He definitely has great potential

                • I'd be completely fine with it as long as he was cheap he has a ton of upside and talent.

                  • I wouldn't mind Britt on a cheap deal. I know he has had a major history with several NJ Police Departments, but since his buddy isn't coming home anytime soon, he's made a turn for the better. A fresh start with a solid core that we have would be amazing for him. And maybe I'm partial because I've been around him and his old friend several times to see the dynamic of that friendship that almost brought him down. He would be an awesome role player WR with big play potential.

Somebody please tell me how can we get CJ Mosley and Jordan Matthews in the draft

                      • CJ Mosley would be a great pick for us in my opinion but he's not going to fall to us at 31. We would most likely have to trade up to get him somewhere between 5 and 15 probably. As far as Jordan Matthews I don't think he'll be there for our 2nd round pick either but he'll be there for us in the 1st round I think. I don't like the idea of drafting him though. Hes a good player I just don't think we need to spend a 2nd or 1st round pick on a WR.

                        • John Elway loves the thought of DeMarcus Ware opposite Von Miller
Posted by Michael David Smith on March 12, 2014, 6:48 PM EDT
                          ElwayAP

John Elway had a big smile on his face as he said on NFL Network on Wednesday that the Broncos knew they wanted to pounce when the Cowboys cut DeMarcus Ware a day earlier.

Elway raved about what Ware can do in the Broncos’ defense and said he thinks Ware will bounce back from a disappointing 2013 season in Dallas.

“We really believe he’s got a lot of football left in him. He played through a lot of pain last year. He’s had a tremendous career and we really think that opposite Von Miller he will really add to the pass rush,” Elway said.

Although the Broncos appear to be spending big now to win a title while Peyton Manning is still in his prime, Elway said the Broncos expect to be in good shape in the future and aren’t pushing as much money into future years as it might appear.

“We’re all in now, but we’re really in this for the future as well,” Elway said. “We’re not mortgaging our future. We plan on being a good football team for a long time.”

As long as the Broncos have Ware and Miller playing together, that will be a lineup that Elway loves, and opposing quarterbacks will hate.

Saw this elsewhere, we'll just have to wait and see.

                          • All 3 contacts could be 1 Year deals: Excellent breakdown

Courtesy of CBS Sports. This is the best breakdown I've seen of the deals. The all seem like a lot of money spent, but they're actually pretty Bronco Cap friendly (Ware's deal is a bit much at 16.5). Everyone, espcially Pats fans are saying we drastically overpaid for Talib. His 1 year deal is very similar to the Revis deal(probably because it's the same thing we offered Revis). $12 mil this season, and can be unloaded if we need cap room next year.

                            CB Aqib Talib, Broncos
Max deal: 6 years, $57M: Could be: 1 year, $12M

This is, at its core, the Darrelle Revis deal, only before the Revis deal was struck -- and Talib isn't Revis. Talib got a modest $5 million signing bonus to go with a $4.5 million salary and a $2.5 million roster bonus this season -- hence $12 million. He has a $500,000 roster bonus due in 2015, and his $5.5 million salary in 2015 is guaranteed only for injury right now and does not become fully guaranteed until the third day of the 2015 league year (next March).

So, there is an obvious window that, if Talib -- who has a checkered past off the field -- is deemed to be expendable for any reason other than health, then he could find himself a free agent for the third straight year.

The Broncos are fully protected. They are renting Talib year-to-year, and if, say, Peyton Manning hangs it up after the 2014 season (and let's not pretend these Broncos moves are anything other than an all-in to capitalize on this period of opportunity with their aging franchise quarterback) and the Broncos decide to dismantle a chunk of this team before they have to start paying kids like Demaryius Thomas and Julius Thomas and rebuild, they have plenty of flexibility to do just that with the Talib contract and the next two listed below.

                            S TJ Ward, Broncos
Max deal: 4 years, $22.5M. Could be: 1 year, $7M

This could end up being essentially like franchising Ward for a season -- which is what many expected the Browns would do before they placed the transition tag on C Alex Mack, and thus eliminating the ability to franchise anyone else.

Ward receives $5 million to sign and makes $2 million in 2014, but his 2015 roster bonus of $2.5 million is guaranteed for injury only, and his base salary is guaranteed for $4 million that season as well. So, if for performance or cap reasons the Broncos want to dump him, they can. At this point there is no real guarantee he gets the entire $6.5 million he would make in 2015 in Denver.

                            DE DeMarcus Ware, Broncos
Max deal: 3 years, $30M. Could be: 1 year, $16.5M

Ware will make $13 million in 2014 among signing bonus, base salary and roster bonus. But the $10 million due him in 2015 ($7M in salary and $3M in a March roster bonus) is not fully guaranteed, other than for injury, so if the Broncos cut him for cap or performance in 2015 in addition to the $13M he made in 2014, he would get an additional $3.5 million.

                            • Browner to the Pats???

Serious move to shore up the secondary in NE. The "arms race" continues!

                              Broncos move.

A "well-placed" team source tells ESPN's Adam Schefter that free agent CB Brandon Browner is close to an agreement with the Patriots, but that it's a "tough deal to do because of suspension, etc."

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports that Browner has "spread the word to those close to him" that he's agreed to terms with the Pats, but his agent vehemently denies it. Browner's rep has spoken directly with many reporters. As such, the deal can't be considered official, but it likely will be some time in the next 24 hours.
