  • Someone Please Explain Schofield

Once again, Elway has made another head scratcher choice in the middle rounds with this Michael Schofield character.

To me, this is another horrible middle round selection on par with the wasted choices of Philip Blake and Omar Bolden.

Schofield is listed at 6'7"-301, which is painfully lean for a RT. He is not a road grader in the running game, and is not very strong overall. Yet he also doesn't have the quick feet for pass protection you would like to see either. He reminds me of the finesse, undersized OT's Mike Shanahan used to favor.

I don't see Schofield ever being what you want as a starter as an OT, so unless they kick him inside to OG and he can start there, we basically spent a third round pick on a backup tackle that is really not even a swing tackle, because he isn't a LT.

Stupid draft choice, or what am I missing??

No, he is a LG who will replace Foster in 2015, with ability to kick out to RT if needed. Still think Painter eill emerge at RT.

That seems like wishful thinking. I think Schofield will be a career backup...or at least he should. They may force the issue since they drafted him, but we have seen how that has worked out in the past

I agree. With a big strong athletic mountain of a man left on the board in Richardson this pick doesn't make much sense. Feed the kid some HGH and we might be okay. Otherwise his arms are long and tiny and feet are slow.

How is it wishful thinking? Most scouts project him inside and for a G, he has very quick feet for pulling.

Painter has another year if needed behind Clark if needed and is as strong and athletic as anyone would want for a RT.

Having a year to develop a rookie is a good thing brother.

He's not a guard imo. I think we're going to let him develop behind Clark while he gains some weight and works with the coach. He's got potential but he shouldn't make an impact in year one.

Meh, Richardson will end up at RG...we are set at RG.

Well, if schofield is projected at OG by the Broncos, he better be better than David Yankey, which I doubt he will

This is the pick I'm struggling to embrace. I liked the value we got with a talented CB like Roby at #31. Though we may disagree with trade, Latimer is an extremely gifted WR and some people thought he could even sneak into the 1st round. I'm watching some videos of Schofield and he's "OK" in my opinion. I'm not sure he can compete with Chris Clark and provide more upside than Vinston Painter. He has room to get stronger and his long arms are a plus. I agree with the decision to draft an OT instead of an OG because it offers more versatility. Antonio Richardson is more impressive physically but after watching his videos I understand why he's still available. I guess OL just isn't a flashy pick to get the fans excited.

I has nothing to do with being 'flashy', I just ask that the pick make sense. I really don't see Schofield ever as a guy you want as a starter, and as a third round pick, drafting a backup OT is not acceptable, period

I just really hate this pick. HATE IT.

Schofield played OG his first 2 years. No, its not sexy pick, but he will be a starter by next year IMO.

I have a hard time taking a guy with little to no versatility. If youre going to spend a high pick on a guy like that, then they better have the potential to dominate there. Schofield just says average to me. Is just ok all the way around. Im not a huge fan of the pick, but maybe they know something I dont.

That's really the only scenario that makes any sense. If Schofield can kick in to LG in 2015 to replace Orlando Franklin, assuming he leaves in free agency, and be an effective starter, I will apologize then...but the Broncos introduced him and are speaking about him in terms of an OT, which I don't see at all. You want your RT's to be bulldozers in the run game, which Schofield will never be

My take is that Schofield was drafted to be the starter at RT, providing an upgrade over Orlando Franklin, or to be the starter at LG, providing an upgrade over Beadles. That's how I'll judge this pick going forward. If Elway is following the board then this guy had to be pretty high on our board.
