  • Has your opinion of the draft gone up/down since Sat?

At the end of the draft I thought it was solid. Drafted some nice players considering where the Broncos picked. Addressed some needs and provided depth. Good job Elway!

But after reading some articles and listening to several pretty positive evaluations on the radio I am even more excited about the players. In some cases my opinion that a player was an average draft selection is being lauded by scouts as much better then I realized.

    - Roby and Latimer keep getting very high grades from most. Usually commenting on fit for the team and value/quality in relation to the position picked.

    - Schofield keeps surprising me. I have heard several glowing comments concerning his Senior Bowl performances against some highly drafted d-lineman. Sal Palantonio (sp) was extremely positive on the radio today. Saying underrated and Broncos starter not out of the question. NFLN review was also very positive about his contribution to Mich as valuable as Lewan. Pretty high praise.

    - Paradis also seems to be more respected by the scouts. Check out the thread with his name that has all the "sleeper of the draft" type comments.

Barrow has also had several positive comments by analysts giving their grades. Specifically how good a fit, how athletic he is and should have gone higher type comments.

I realize I am Bronco biased but I am excited about this group and what they may contribute to the Broncos. Anyone else?

I was a bit upset we didnt go after a bigger corner then Roby but Im slowly getting over it, I feel Latimer is overrated but with Matthews off the board before him it was hard to ignore his value. I like Schofield more now I was high on him coming out of the senior bowl and a bit after the combine but after I started looking at his lack of power I grew concerned though with his length and footwork he could be a nice pick.

Im over reaching for Paradis hes a good player and a true gem and Barrow has the highest potential of probably any ILB but is one of the rawest talents you will see. Still hes a good pick and despite needing proper technique is dangerous

I think when you see how it all played out I am still stunned we traded for a WR but I think we got what we needed out of this draft (though I wish we could have gotten upgrades to RB and OLB/DE depth)

Filled our biggest need (CB), everything else is gravy.

Not expecting alot of them minus Roby to have big roles this year, maybe Barrow if he comes on strong early.

Knowing Fox Barrow will be eased into the role of cover LB or MLB slowly till hes sure he has a handle on it. Which is fine, as long as the circumstances permit that.

Roby hasnt had much experience in press coverage and I do worry about his fluidity to a degree but he will likely be replacing Carter as our 3rd corner in nickel situations (or at least I hope).

I dont think we can use Schofield right away but you never know he could push himself into the starting lineup of this current makeshift O-line.

Latimer will likely be the new 4th receiver

I think our coaching staff decided that what few holes we had were cleaned up in FA so this draft was more of a patch work and depth.

OSU ran a new scheme this year, alot of off coverage/zone.

The previous year they were in press/man to man i believe.

Roby is pretty good in press/man to man coverage.

I agree with the rest though.

good article about Roby....didn't post the whole thing

Wisconsin Conclusion: Bradley Roby's scouting report tells us that he is a very physical corner that excels in press coverage and this was the first time that he has been asked to trail one receiver (Abbrederis) around the field for an entire game this season. The coaches dialed up press coverage on Abbrederis on 21 out of 57 snaps, out of those 21 times that Roby pressed, Abbrederis was targeted seven times and they completed two of those passes. In press coverage, he was flagged for one penalty (holding), broke up two passes and let up a touchdown where Roby actually had great coverage on but Abbrederis made a great play on the ball.

When Roby played off of Abbrederis that is when he got abused. Joel Stave targeted Abbrederis and Roby ten times and completed five of those passes and drew a pass interference penalty. Roby only broke up one pass and had an interception on a poorly thrown ball. As I said earlier, it is tough to tell on the television what type of coverage was called but Abbrederis was in Roby's zone on these plays when he made the catch.

You are correct though 1 game is hardly a body of work, he played off man throughout his career we tend to ask for a bit tighter coverage then hes provided. Also Abbredaris being struggling in a jam or press coverage thats not necessarily headlines its more like an mo.

I cant say hes not fluid because he is though I felt SJB and McGill had slightly better hips so I was being a bit bitter. I mean I can only name 4 route runners who could give Roby fits. Of those only Janis would be difficult to jam (though hes also has the worst hands of the bunch.)

I don't know, I'm always underwhelmed by our drafts because we don't tend to do anything flashy. It's not like I know who any of these players are until they are drafted anyways (unless we're selecting in the top 5 or so, which I appreciate the fact that we don't do this very often), and then I'm just going off of "expert" reviews for feedback on them. I'm excited that we got a corner with potential to play along with 2 proven vets in Talib and Harris, but I'm not going to hold my breath about him being a solid contributor. I would have preferred to add another running back, but hopefully one of the UFA prospects can make the team. I think if any position has a chance to make it undrafted at this point, it would be the running backs.

I was very skeptical at first, but it is growing on me. Barrow and Schofield are the ones I was initially worried about. Barrow, especially, seems to be a great fit for our D, and the more I read on him the more I like him.

I guess my biggest gripe is not getting the value in later rounds with Roberson, C. Jones, L. washington, etc.

It has definitely gone up since Saturday.

I always heard people bring up the Wisconsin tape when talking about Roby, and that scared me. But when you actually look at it, he only got beat on two big plays. The first one he had absolutely perfect coverage but missed swatting the ball away by just a couple inches. On the second one he played too aggressive and bit on a wheel route. He made some good tackles and had good coverage for the rest of the game.

Loved it then, Love it now.

You people are so picky sometimes lol.

Got a solid corner with huge upside and a big time WR with loads of potential as well.

It seems like you guys just want NFL ready to start right now players, well newsflash, even Ja'daveon Clowney needs refining and some work to do.

I loved the draft as a whole and the UDFA class is the bomb.

Schofield needs to work out more especially on his lower body but once he does that he should be a high ceiling low floor player like Barrow. Any time you draft a player based on high potential its bound to get a bad reaction

People wanted Richardson/Henderson and Jones because they didnt care about the perceived character concerns that most franchises deemed as being to risky of picks in the 1st 5 rounds and despite not having any guarantee they would be there fans wanted us to drop into the later rounds and get what could be risky steals at low risk picks if it turned out that way which we had no way of knowing

At MLB it was Barrow or Tripp the latter of which lacks ideal length and has not faced high level competition and unlike Barrow who scouts think is better off inside is believed to be more of a WLB. People would have complained either way

At OT Dozier is considered more of a Guard because of his height and length and lacked the same ideal push as Schofield but worse and lacked his footwork. So we would have had to go with Fleming who in all honesty with Schofields lack of weight is still a worse OT and was completely overrated until draft day

The team felt it needed a another tall receiver you cant falt them for that, or the fact they valued an average height corner over a tall one that they could of dropped back and got. Though in the end we got BPA at 1 traded up to get 2 and got BPA in 3 and 5 at the positions we needed to fill they stuck to there draft board and got away with some not so solid but definitely high potential picks
