I am uncertain about the high expectations for Irving and Johnson. They have had a couple of years to win the starting MLB job and have lost it to an undersized Will backer and journeymen. The starting MLB may not yet be on the team.

Thats not 100% true we did have Phillips playing SAM in pass rush situations for the first game then on and off for the next 4, then moved him full time to DE due to injuries of Ayers and then his own playing.

Phillips was not at the Sam in pass rush situations. If were in the nickel on pass rush downs and Phillips was on the LOS then he was a DE, or just a pass rusher and even if he was the Sam on designated pass downs BFD, there pass downs, obviously Irving wouldn't be left in to rush the passer. Irving took 100% of the starter reps all offseason at Mike, OTA's, minicamps, everything. He was the Mike until millers suspension was handed down and then all of a sudden we started seeing Irving running with the 2's at the Sam and WW at mike. Now the improvements of Trevathan also made this move possible and Irving may have been moved anyways even if miller hadn't been suspended because of a attempt to get WW on the field but Irving was the Mike until injuries and millers suspension forced us to move him outside.
