Let's preface this by saying this is a no trade mock. My original thought was to trade out of the 1st round, and pick up a couple picks. I have since changed my mind because I am doubtful my target would be there.
I truly believe we will not land Kaep. RG3 will likely go to LA from the sound of it. Fitz is to expensive. All of this leaves us in a pinch at QB. Yes, we have Sanchez and Trev, but we need something else. So without further ado.....
Free Agency:
Restructure LT Ryan Clady: this is a MUST in my opinion. We will be starting with a new QB, and we already have a weak line. No need to throw a new LT in the mix. Clady has already expressed his interest in staying here. Let's keep him!
Re-sign LG Evan Mathis: he struggled early on, but came on string late in the season and into the post season. We need competition amongst the OL this year.
Sign DE Nick Fairly: I truly believe this guy can be had on another prove it deal. He played well for the one year he was with the Rams. He still has talent, and we already know Elway wanted him in the draft.
Now on to the DRAFT:
#31- QB Connor Cook MSU: IMO he is the best fit for our offense. The guy does it all. He is accurate on the run. He can tuck and run with the ball if needed. He will make this team better under Kubes.
2nd- OG Joshua Garnett Stanford: this guy is perfect for RG to replace Vas. He is big and physical, and can move for our ZBS. It helps he is from Elway's alma mater.
3rd- ILB Tyler Matakevich Temple- very instinctual gut. Not the most athletic, but can shed, and tackle. Always headed toward the ball. Relentless guy.
3rd (comp)- OT Cole Toner Harvard: another depth guy that is a natural mover. He fits the ZBS to a "T". He will need time to develop into starting roles, but is just what we need....depth.
4th (comp)- DE Matt Judon Grand Valley State: played at a small school, but lead the nation in sack (at every level) with 20. The guy is an athlete for his size, and can also anchor in the run game. He would be a steal at this pick.
5th- RB Keith Marshall Georgia: this guy ran a 4.31 40 time at the combine. Yes, he was behind some real talent at rb for the Bulldogs, but he would be our COP back behind Perkins.
6th (comp)- CB Deiondre' Hall Northern Iowa: this is the gem of the draft for me. He is 6'1 and can fly. He has fluid hips, and can turn and run with anyone. He also played S, LB, and CB so he can over around in the secondary. He also has long arms for the position. He could develop into something real special.
7th- P Drew Kasey Texas A&M: everyone know we pay way to much for our punter. This guy has the strongest leg in the nation. He also uses a "knuckle ball" which he can stop the ball once it hits the ground, sometimes even using back spin. His only weakness is he sometimes out kicks his coverage.
7th- TE Jake Mcgee Florida- transfered from Virginia as a pass catcher. He was playing real well in Florida before he broke his leg in the 2nd game of the season. If he passes the medical, he can be a real treat for our new QB.
Let me know what you think!
Edit... after seeing that we matched the offer sheet for CJ, I had to take Paul Perkins off my draft. As much as I love Perkins, I didn't expect us to match that offer. I replaced Perkins with Tyler Matakevich from Temple. Good ILB prospect.
