It's not happening people. He had perhaps his best season of his career and was the 2nd best DB in the NFL behind Chris Harris.

As for the others listed in the OP.

Stephenson should be gone. I would have cut him as soon as the clock hit 00:00 last Sunday.

Okung is worth keeping but definitely not on his current contract. If he is willing to take a pay cut, I'd keep him. If Okung won't take a pay cut, then he should be cut.

TJ Ward is an interesting case. I wouldn't mind cutting him but yet Im more than fine with keeping him. He has some coverage issues but he also is aggressive and plays more like a LB than a true Safety. Simmons is gonna be a stud, I believe. He could replace Ward right now if need be but keeping Ward another year to give Simmons another season to learn and grow before starting is alright with me.

Someone else that should go that wasn't in the OP is Virgil Green. He has been quite a disappointment since his extension and we'd save a couple million with cutting him. I'd draft a TE and go with Derby and Heuerman for next season.
Yeah i think Green and Stephenson are possible cuts.

Okung is a wild card, not worth his salary but dont have any replacement.

Ward as well is interesting, we do have replacements but him being cut only saves like 4 mil or so. Doubt Denver re-signs him, i'd just keep him and let him walk after 18.

I believe we had the hardest finishing schedule in the history of the NFL. So to say the last 4 games teams scored on us isn't a suprise.

The Broncos will have close to $40-M in cap to play with and an anticipated 10-draft picks.

To become a SB contender again, they need 2-3 more players on defense and 4-6 on offense.

I do not understand the mentions of cutting Talib. The defense needs 10 more of him (in various sizes).

In fact if I can take my comment here a step further. It is up to the HC to make the needed personnel changes, scheme or game plan changes to allow for his teams offense to perform better. Ultimately, for example in our 2016-2017 teams case we lead the league in 3 and outs I believe. We also saw a traumatic drop in run production when we effectively stopped using a FB. There were MANY FB's available and we never bothered to bring one in or use Juwan the same way we did Janovich. We also failed to alter our scheme even after we didn't perform well on offense for 3 or 4 weeks in a row...

I'd argue that even with sub par personnel in some areas on defense we saw WaDE make noticeable and carefully planned alterations to his approach to try and address the issue. Sure it only helped a bit but it was still changes....

So again I say the defense is challenged week in and out to elevate their game and by and large they do to a near impossible standard. Yet the offense this season couldn't even elevate their level of play to average....I can understand how a rift is both justified and formed.

Whether the D has the right to be upset or not doesn't matter, you have to have everyone working together.

Tj Ward would be terrible cut. he is one of if not the hardest hitting safety in the league maybe more of a rotational guy but he is getting paid not what he should his deal has been a great thing for denver

    1. Eric Berry $10.8M*
    2. Harrison Smith $10.3M
    3. Earl Thomas $10.0M
    4. Devin McCourty $9.5M
    5. Jairus Byrd $9.0M

way lower then the top dogs. the fact byrd makes 3.25 million more a year is insanity

    And Ward is too...

Their cap salary is just fine, we've got plenty of cap to make some moves anyways...

The secondary isn't broke, and we're grooming young players to fill the gaps- no need to "fix it", Ward and Talib should both stay.

    Stephenson
    Tj ward
    Virgil green.

The cutting of those 3 free up enough money to sign on big time free agent lineman on either side if the ball.

Stephenson for obvious reasons green because he is simply not worth over 3 mill. When have you ever found yourself sayin "Virgil green was the difference maker that game"? Then you have tj which may be unpopular but he has fallen off. Cant cover and misses more tackles than he makes sometimes. Parks and Simmons are playing way too good going into the off season to not expand their role. Let them battle it out for #1 and bring back bruton as a backup.

Under no circumstances will talib be cut since we don't have anything near his talent level to replace him and with his contract there are almost a dozen higher paid cornerbacks and out of those 12 only 2 are a weak debate as being better.

Here's another good example of why you need to fix a toxic locker room, it chases players away. It's one player, but he turned down a bigger contract to get away from Washington.

In Keenan Robinson’s experience, reports of dissension in the Redskins’ locker room likely aren’t exaggerated. Heading into Sunday’s game against the Giants with two losses to open the season, the …

As for what Elway needs to fix...it's the OLINE and a few coaches ( likely to fix itself with a new regime coming in). Also our TE'S could use a bit of polish.

What if the offense is strong and the defense is awful next year? Does the offense then start ripping into the D?

Again I have no idea what happened, nor who was involved. But if there is someone, whoever it is, who is a locker room cancer, Elway needs to fix that.
