True that. Has he been in town yet?

I don't care how much of his body is similar to Vance walkers,
I for one do not like this potential signing.

These are not the days of Mike Shanahan signing a bunch of other teams Cast offs. We need to sign quality players, difference makers a long both lines. That is where it all starts and they are out there especially a long the defensive line.

Sign Calais Campbell and Persue Vance Walker, don't waste money on Mitchell.

Campbell and Walker play different positions than Mitchell. Every signing can't be an all-pro and currently the only NT on our roster was signed off of the practice squad in week 17. I would prefer Bennie Logan above all other NT options, but it seems highly likely we will add at least two NT's through free agency and the draft.

Really because I'm pretty sure Nose Tackle and Defensive End are the same position derrr...

Walker could be bumped from DE to NT, we've saw it in the past and he performed quite well. Know what I'm saying is I'd rather pursue one of our own that we know can play both positions and played in well over a free agent that we already know cannot perform so well at either position if he had too.

We don't need to waste good money on a back up nose tackle Besides that we still have Kyle Peko on boardShumark not a bad back up if he's riding behind Vance walker and perhaps Adam Gotsis.

Yes I know Gotsis is a DE but can play NT as well.

Not without some substantial strength he can't. His biggest issue last season was the ability to get off a tackle/block and move onto the tackle. That happens when you're strong enough to do so. I am also not entirely sure he has played that position before either. After all he is relatively new to American Football. The Broncos traditionally covet and target / players to allow the team more flexibility. That doesn't mean however that every DE player can play the NT position. Also of note is that there is a stark difference between playing a position and playing it well.

I agree with both the Logan sentiment and that we need two guys at the NT position. I personally want a couple really nice pieces for the DL and a stud ILB, that is my priority #1, shore up the D and restore it to "elite". We gave up 4.3 YPC up from 3.3 YPC the previous year. The difference was a world championship vs missing the playoffs. Can talk Offense all day long, but last year our O was on par with 2015 team.

Even if we committed $25M to defensive FA signings and our 1st round pick to ILB, we would still have 15M cap sapce and 7 draft picks to help out the offense. At the end of the day I still believe our defense is the path to the SB.

49ers signed DT Earl Mitchell to a four-year, $16 million contract.

49ers to pay 4 yrs,16M with 5.5 in year 1 for Mitchell. Broncos had 3-yr deal with 4.5 in yr 1. Unreal considering cut for 4M. #9sports
So the Broncos were willing to pay $4.5 million for him this season. That means he was probably being targeted as the starting nose tackle.

Klis said DE but if they offered Mitchell that, makes me think they'll be aggressive in the DL market.

He was offered 4.5 million in year one to play in Denver yet chose a bottom feeder for 1 million more.

Good for him, but I don't want anyone here like that who is content to play losing football.

Sounds like he was a money guy but good luck to him in a big fat congratulations and victory for Denver.

I hope now we go All in on Callais Campbell or Brandon Williams come March 9.

                            If Baltimore doesn't tag Williams.

                                March 1st.

Here's a little break down on how the tag works. For anyone that may be interested.

All NFL teams can start tagging players starting on Tuesday, February 15, and can do so up until the March 1 tagging deadline , here's a quick rundown on how the franchise tag works.

What is a franchise tag? It's a one-year contract tender that serves as a mechanism to allow teams to retain their top players that are set to hit free agency. Each team can tag one player every year.

Once tagged, players can play the next season under the terms of the tender, or work out a long-term extension with their team. The NFL sets a deadline (July 15 for franchise players, July 22 for transition players this year) for teams to negotiate with tagged players. If no deal is reached, the player has to play under the tag.

How are the different tag types different? There are three versions of the tag - the exclusive tag, the non-exclusive tag and the transition tag. Here's how each tag type works:

Exclusive : Player receives a one-year tender that is the average of the top five player salaries at his position or 120 percent of his previous season's salary, depending on which value is higher. Under the exclusive tag, a player cannot negotiate with any other clubs.

Non-exclusive : Player receives a one-year tender that is the average of the top five player salaries at his position or 120 percent of his previous season's salary, depending on which value is higher. Under the non-exclusive tag, a player can negotiate with other clubs and receive an offer sheet, which his team can match to retain him. If the original team declines to match the offer sheet, it receives two first-round picks from the player's new team as compensation.

Transition tag : Player receives a one-year tender that is the average of the top 10 player salaries at his position. A player can negotiate with other clubs and receive an offer sheet, which his team can match to retain him. If the original team declines to match the offer sheet, they receive no compensation in return. Players cannot talk to other teams during the legal tampering period if they are transition tagged. A team cannot use the transition tag if it has already used the franchise tag, or vice versa.

These Giants can benefit from recent cuts

Can teams rescind tags? Yes - the Panthers did it last year with Josh Norman . The Dolphins also rescinded Olivier Vernon's transition tag right before free agency began.

Can a player be tagged multiple times? Yes, but it can cost a tremendous amount. If a player is tagged in back-to-back years, he must receive a tender that is 120 percent of his initial tag level. It grows to 144 percent of that second-year number if a team wants to use the tag a third straight year.
