  • Considering the options of trading away our 1st pick

I understand we need a QB badly and now we are getting closer to being in a great position for a QB. But what if we were offered a next year 1st among other picks for our first spot? If it was from the right team, that could be really valuable. Then we focus on fortifying the OL and some offensive weapons. Sign a journeyman QB (Keenum/Bridgewater/Bradford or McGowen, ... on a 2 year deal) and then let Kelly complete for the starting job, who knows what we have in him, hopefully at least a solid backup.

Two 1st round picks this year may be perfect for two OL picks and there are so many teams that need OL I think they will be a run on them this year.

In the 2nd, maybe a stud TE (suggestion, Mark Andrews #2 TE in the draft).

After this, I don't care who else but hopefully in the 1st two rounds we have enough for an average QB to get us into the playoffs.

I know one thing for sure, a rookie QB is (most likely) not going to win us a SB in his first year.

If there is a qb in this draft that is predicted to be one of the great ones you don't pass them up. Just ask the Brown's. It's nice to have extra picks but some kids you can't skip on . If the QB's are eh....so so or could be good with a lil work then trade down . Unless there's a beast there for the taking.

You mentioned getting two 1st round picks. Based on projections Buffalo would pick 18th and 21st but even then I’m not sure that’s good enough for a top 5 pick. They also have two 2nd round picks. They were interested in trading Glenn at one point but I don’t think he is good enough for that bloated contract he has.

For years I have said that desperate GMs ruin the NFL: they artificially inflate the price of free agency and draft picks because they are solely focused on the coming year rather than years 3-5 on the horizon. Desperate GMs make these crazy moves that ruin the process for everyone else.

I just realized the Broncos now have a desperate GM... Damn! Who knows what crazy moves Elway will make.

I think you only trade if you sign a quarterback in free agency before the draft.

It's funny you mention the Browns. Last year they got the #1 pick and this year they'll get 2 picks in the top 10 (#1 & #10). If they could have looked into the future last year (maybe 2 years ago) they may end up being in a better position than if they had picked Wentz and had mid 1st round picks for the subsequent years. Granted, they still need to make the right picks but there has to be at least 2 Elite players in the top 10 in 2018. Therefore, trading back like they did to give it a 2-3 year process vs the get better with a QB only may still prove to be the better approach in the long run.

Another example is the 49ers. They didn't get a QB last year until they got their holes filled knowing that it will be a 2-3 year process.

The jury is still out on both of these teams.

I think it depends on how you feel about the trio of Allen, Mayfield and Jackson. If you like all 3 then trading down and picking up one of these 3 plus extra picks seems like a good idea.

If we keep winning our top pick will be worth a lot less.

Last week we were 4th behind Chi. This week we just went ahead of three teams with a win but are still behind Chi.

We keep winning we may find ourselves out of the top 15.

By waiting until now to start playing well TS is still hurting the Broncos chances of winning a Super Bowl
When you want to feel negative about the Broncos think of this. Detroit Lions have 1 playoff win in the Super Bowl era in 1992 (1991 season). They are 0-3 in the playoffs since 2000.

There is absolutely no way we pick outside the top 15. Unless no team between 1-15 besides us wins any of their games. Which would be impossible.

It's always an intriguing option to trade back in the first to pick up a first the following year. The Browns did it with #12 this past year.

It's certainly possible, but a few things have to be in place.

A team at the back part of the first round must fall in love with a QB. (It's doubtful a team gives up a future first for anything other than a QB. It has happened like the Bills trading up for Watkins but unlikley.)

We must not have fallen in love with the same QB (Or another QB who's available). If we target a guy we believe can be our franchise guy then there is no way we trade out and risk losing him if he's sitting there for us.

We must still feel comfortable about picking up an impact player near the end of the first. If we are concerned about the depth of talent in the draft at key areas for us like OL, RB, and LB, we probably don't pull a trade like this.

The team right now that might pull a deal like this is the Saints. If we pick in the 8-12 range they will likely be picking in the 25-32 range and would need a package including a future first to move up to us. They probably want to find a successor to Brees.

If we are picking in the 4-6 range we might be looking at teams picking in the late teens. A team like the Cardinals or Bills who will be picking in the mid-late teens probably could be options to do a trade like this.

If DEN made such a trade with BUF then hopefully both DaRon Payne and Vita Vea are DEN's selections.

                        Imagine a DL of

                        (depth) base
                        Vita - Payne - Wolfe
                        Harris - Peko - Gotsis

Although this would do nothing for our OL,
it would solify our DL for years.

R2 could be spent on OL:
Billy Price, Ohio State > Isaiah Wynn, Georgia > or Braden Smith, Auburn

                        Bolles - Leary - Paradis - Price - BPA

Granted i dont know the player 100% but one mock had us taking orlando brown at 5. Indy took conner. Brown at 5 seems to be a reach at this time.

If your talking a trade with buffalo, i would think you ask for both 1st this year and first next year.

Mozzer i was thinking same thing if trade back were to happen. Even if one of them were gone you could go with one of the clemson guys. Both are a need too when you think about it.

i would switch vita vea and payne around. i think vita is only really a Nt prospect doesn't have the agility to play DE in the 3-4

i think this only works if we sign soldier if not we need to draft a starting OT witha first or second rounder.
