  • Rolling The QB Dice

Since we need a new QB, I would like to hear your ideas. Here’s the probable to possible list of FA quarterbacks and trade bait after this season. Are any potentially our next QB based on ability and affordability? I’ve made some observations but those are just my thoughts. What do you think might the best way to go?

    Stand Pat:
    Paxton Lynch
    Chad Kelly

    Possible Starting Quarterback Options:
Kirk Cousins – Likely very expensive
Tyrod Taylor – Trends of inconsistency
Case Keenum – Great this year but has a spotty past
Teddy Bridgewater – Injury comeback risk
Sam Bradford – Made of glass
Drew Brees - Think the Saints will keep him

    Possible Trade Options:
    Eli Manning
    Phillip Rivers
    Alex Smith
    AJ McCarron

    Others:
Brock Osweiler, Josh McCown, Jay Cutler, Chase Daniel, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Matt Moore, Tom Savage, Geno Smith, E.J. Manuel, Drew Stanton, Chad Henne, Blaine Gabbert, and Colin Kaepernick

Standing pat would be the worst thing. The best options would be Luck or Cousins. After them, Smith. Bridgewater or Taylor would be acceptable. We have no shot at Brees or Rivers.

I say look at AJ . Could be the cheapest by way of draft picks and with a decent Oline we might have a startering qb.

Unless chad Kelly pans out... Dream senerio

I like the McCarron idea too. I didn't include Luck as him coming back might be real iffy and it would cost us a ton of cash.

I am going to hold off to see what Paxton does the rest of the season if he gets to play any more this season. With Siemian hurt, he may. I also know many don't like Osweiler but he still has a shotgun arm and a lot of talent. Sure, he played yesterday agains a poor team but Indy has a decent defense that has played a few lpretty good team pretty tough.
Seems like I have seen many players get a big, long term contract and then just do very little until the last year of that big contract. I fear Cousins might be the same way. I also think if Jacksonville will give him big tax free money, he is gone there.
I still have high hopes for Kelly!

McCarron filed a grievance to seek UFA status this offseason, he and his agent say that he was healthy enough to be activated in 2014 but the Bengals refused. So at some point an arbitrator will decide if he's a UFA or RFA.

Restricted free agent or unrestricted free agent? The Bengals won’t know the status of their backup quarterback for a few months.

Looking at that list, and that's a pretty comprehensive and well thought out projection, is why I'm thinking we will look to the draft to add a QB fairly high, either with our first pick or trading up from our 2nd to the back part of the 1st to pick one.

No one on the FA/Trade possibilities really excite me. Maybe Alex Smith if we could acquire him for a decent price in a trade, but KC will have a lot of leverage if they shop him around and a lot of suitors to drive the price up.

If Bridgewater medically checks out I'd be glad to bring him on to start for us but that's a big if on whether he's back healthy enough for a full 16 game regular season.

Luck is the top of the dream heap... but money, picks and health are too much to overcome,

Broncos identity should be one that employs a top 5 defense, complimented by a solid, power rushing attack and dependable ST play.

This is why I’m all for drafting OL in the first and best defensive player in the second.

I don’t want to keep chasing the QB dream. No team has drafted more QBs since 2012 than DEN.

I prefer we sign a QB in free agency, and go with Brock as a backup.... with chad and pax fighting for 3rd string.

Let’s run the ball 30 times a game.... protect the football.... and win some football games, playing to the strengths of our roster.

That makes too much sense, I say go all out and chase the offensive magic that could be and go for broke :thumb:

I agree addressing the offensive line and adding talent to this team should be our priority. Some may disagree and that’s their prerogative, but a healthy Chad Kelly is better than any quarterback coming out this year, go watch this link:

Build the team, see what we have in Kelly, Butts and Both Henderson’s

If we didn’t already waste 2 years going with a 7th round pick then I think more people would be open to the idea.

he’s a seventh rounder due to injury and off field issues nothing to do with his play. We got a first round talent for the cost of a seventh

I understand he isn’t the average 7th rounder but if he ever had a chance it would have been this year. I actually had high hopes for him this year but he couldn’t get on the field. I don’t think the team can afford to go into next season with another QB competition and I think they would have a very hard time selling that idea.

Maybe he gets lucky and we completely whiff on free agency and the draft.

You can’t get on the field with injuries and being on the IR. Jake Butt was arguably the best TE in college in 2016 but due to injuries we got him in the 5th, so by your thinking Jake Butt won’t amount to anything because he didn’t make the field either right?
