  • Building a dynasty, Mock!

Posted something similar to this in another thread. Thought I would go a step farther and build a mock around it. This is crazy and completely unrealistic, but imagine the possibilities.

    Release:
CB Aqib Talib, G Max Garcia, T Menelik Watson

    Tender:
WR Jordan Taylor, C Matt Paradis, LB Shaq Barrett

    Free Agent additions:
G Andrew Norwell, OT Eric Winston, CB Aaron Colvin, WR Allen Robinson

Trade: WR Emmanuel Sanders for a conditional 2019 pick.

Trade: WR DeMaryius Thomas to the Colts for their 2018 2nd rounder. McDaniels might roll the dice to get Luck a WR to pair with Hilton. Remember, McD took Thomas over Dez Bryant.

Trade: LB Von Miller to the Browns for picks 1 and 4. The Browns wind up signing Kirk Cousins and can put together the best pass rushing tandem in the NFL with Miller and Garrett. They still have tons of picks in rounds 2-4 to add additional young talent. Adding Cousins and Miller allows them to be in win-now mode while they continue to build.

    Draft:
    1. (#1) QB Josh Rosen (UCLA)
Our new QB. He is the most polished passer in the draft and can start right away. We miss out on Cousins so we go this route.
    1. (#4) DB Minkah Fitzpatrick (Ala)
Elway goes BPA here and finds a gem in Fitzpatrick. He is versatile enough to play CB in Talib’s absence but will eventually replace Stewart and pair up with Simmons to form the best young Safety duo in football.
Trade: Josh Allen falls here and the Redskins give up a Kings ransom to move up ahead of the Jets to nab him. We receive their 2018 1st (#13), 2018 2nd (#44), and 2019 2nd.

    1. (#13) OT Matt McGlinchey (ND)
Here is our LT. I think Bolles is a better fit at RT and McGlinchey will be a mainstay at LT for the next decade.

    2. (#36) DE/OLB Arden Key (LSU)
Here is Von’s replacement. He will need to be motivated but is a special talent and should easily get double digit sacks on year 1.

    2. (#40) WR Courtland Sutton (SMU)
Here is possibly Thomas’s replacement. Big, strong, physical guy who will go up and get the ball, unlike Thomas the last couple of years.

    2. (#44) LB Leighton Vander Esch(Boise St)
Todd Davis’s replacement. This guy was one of the most productive players in CFB this year. Just seems like an Elway type pick here.

    3. WR Dante Pettis (Wash)
We add another talented WR for Rosen to throw to. Pettis is an exceptional route runner who can play slot while Sutton, Robinson, and Taylor play outside. He also is one of the best PRs in the nation. Making McKenzie expendable.

    3. (Comp pick for Okung) C Brian Allen (Mich St)
Depth for the inside of the line. Could replace Paradis as early as next year.

    4. RB Mark Walton (MIA)
We add to our RB stable here, Walton has the makings of a franchise back down the road.

    4. CB Kevin Tolliver (LSU)
Some say he has a 1st-2nd rd skillset but has played out of position much of his career. He’s better as a press man CB than in zone, we take a chance on him here.

    5. ILB Airius Moore (NC St)
A rangy LB with good coverage skills. A little undersized but will contribute on ST right away.

    5. OLB Tyquan Lewis (Ohio St)
We get a steal here. Lewis has led the Buckeyes in sacks before and would allow us to move on from Barrett next year if we need to.

    6. OT Ike Boettger (Iowa)
Depth for the o-line. I like taking a chance on a Hawkeye linemen here.

    7. P JK Scott (Alabama)
Before I hear the “why waste a pick on a punter, Dixon is solid” crap realize, it’s a 7th round pick and Dixon can be upgraded on. Lay off those lame comments please.

So there ya have it. We get our franchise QB, rebuild our WR core for him to grow with, Butt saves the TE position, totally overstock the o-line with good, young talent, upgrade over Todd Davis, replace Von with a nearly equally talented player, and finally add an Earl Thomas type player to the secondary. Plus we add a couple picks for next years draft. This is how you build a dynasty. Hate all you want, every position is addressed and every hole is filled. I love Thomas and Miller as much as the next guy, but Thomas has worn out his welcome and if we could possibly get this kind of haul for Von, why not? But, haters gonna hate!

Then, after a season where we win 5 or 6 games with a rookie QB and a relatively young team Elway finally realizes Vance Joseph isn’t capable of even coaching a Pop Warner team so he fires him.

Then he goes out and hired John DeFillipo as our new HC. Hello dynasty!

There's no chance in hell Von Miller would get us the #1 and #4 picks. Cleveland might as well draft Chubb and Key. They would get more sacks and cost a lot less.

A player of Vons caliber in his prime is worth 2 1st rounders. Ok, if it makes you happy we throw in our 2nd next year.

Thank you for sharing this mock. I don't see Elway trading Von, but one never knows. I also don't see us going through free agency without bringing in a veteran QB. My idea is for us to sign a QB in FA, move back in the draft, get the best OT and ILB available and then rebuild our defense. I like the way you worked on both the offense and the defense in this mock.
