Drafting a QB, Who I think we should be looking at and a few other tidbits

I’m only commenting on this specific crop of QB prospects, who’ll be in this upcoming draft.

Darnold has pretty bad mechanics and is raw, Rosen has major attitude red flags, Allen has the measurable by is far too inaccurate, and Mayfield is short with his own flaws.

Some fans are acting like this is the 1983 draft... this isn’t even Eli, Rivers, Big Ben.

So, if this is truly the case and this decision is reached in DEN... then it would be foolish for Denver to reach... and gamble.

Why?

Because the first 4 BPA prospects are considered elite... Elite is better than good,
I THINK we all can agree.

Now, if we want to wax philosophical.... sure,
we can talk about mitigating risk and how perceived flaws are worked on and blah blah....

DEN has a bridge QB and they have, in essence, 2 young first round type QBs (and if Paxton and Kelly were in this draft where might they fall)....

Unless DEN fella there’s a can’t miss stud then no sense in selling farm to move up... heck, if there’s even some doubt... I pass and take a Nelson and a barkley.

While people clamor for their guy, perhaps waiting on a Jackson, Rudolph, Lee, Falk or whatnot in round two might be wiser... like dak.

Imagine if DEN takes Mayfield. He sits for 2 years. Then turns out to be a bust.... and Barkley is next M-Faulk and Nelson the next Hutchinson.

With the info in hand.... they better feel good about a QB if they pass on an elite prospect.

This is my point. If they are 50/50 on an a Allen or Mayfield or Rosen... they won’t be able to justify passing on Nelson.

And what if Barkley is the next Trent Richardson and Neslon is the next Leonard Davis?

A good example for this discussion is the 2008 draft, when Miami and St. Louis drafted the top-2 prospects, the "can't-miss" prospects, Jake Long and Chris Long, over an "OK, but nothing great" QB, Matt Ryan.

There is NO SUCH THING AS A CANT MISS PROSPECT. It is for this reason that people on these boards who are begging for Nelson drive me so crazy. They want to put this guy in the Hall of Fame already before he has ever played a game in the NFL. We need a long term answer at QB (unless u think Paxton is it) and we are in prime position to get one at the top of this draft. Anything else would be a failure by this front office.

When the number five pick comes up in the Draft, Denver will have plenty of options which will only come into focus after the number four pick is announced. I'm sure they will have a plan with contingencies.

For sure, we can say with some certainty that the only players we know will be gone before 5 are Darnold and, imo, Barkley. Nobody really knows what the Giants will do and what QB the Jets are targeting or what the Brown's #4 pick will be. I'm assuming the list Denver will have to choose from will look something like.....

Chubb
Nelson
Fitzpatrick
Ward
Allen and or Rosen
Marfield

Trade back I don't see happening because of the impact player comment by Elway. I can't wait to find out which direction we go. Regardless of which position it is we need to get behind it and look forward.......

I like Rosen more than Allen, but I think Allen has a great shot to be a Giant. He needs development, there won’t be any pressure for him to play year 1, that’s a plus.

The biggest reason I think he has a chance is simply the Giants. Outdoor team, in a windy stadium, cold winters. Allen is use to crappy weather, and has the physical tools to succeed there. Not that Rosen doesn’t, just saying Allen might get more of a look than you think.

Are you referring The Wyoming Wind Festival, January 1st through December 31st?

I can’t for the life of me figure out why the giants would pass on Rosen at #2 and pass on the chance to potentially have a seemless transition from one franchise QB to the next like green bay has. Eli is 37. How much longer do they think he has?

I think they'd go Chubb to pair with Garrett. Can get a RB later on.

i could see then going ward over Chubb to be honest. they have ogbah which may not be as good as chubb. but they have absolutely no one at CB. the only one i see that is reconize is TJ carrie and he is not a starting CB maybe a nickle

I sort of hope CLE goes Chubb.... then we get our choice between Barkley, Nelson, Mayfield or Allen (whoever left after NYJ take their QB). Other than getting Darnold, this is my best case scenario.

I've said this for months lol, but they have said they are committed to Eli.

But passing up a QB when your QB is 37 years old, has shown alot of decline is just so dumb.
