Teams that feature a TE in the passing game are tough to stop when they split out their TEs against a LB or CB and we have 2 of them in our division. Guys like Gronk, and in our division, Kelce and Hunter Henry need a hybrid type player to cover them. They are too physical for a true DB and too athletic for a LB. Cravens would allow them to still run a 2 high safety scheme, if they choose to, but have the personnel in to stay with the TE and also play the run well.
Sounds like a three-Safety defense with the ability to run all the Cover 2 possibilities as well.

I believe it was Doug Williams. I didn't know he worked for the Redskins, he's their VP of Player Personnel.

Stewart's contract for the coming season is fully guaranteed, IIRC.

One report I read said they think Craven, being a former LB playing safety...may fill a HIUGE need we have had for a while...a guy who can cover TEs and RBs.

Not sure if this means anyone has to go in this conversation...depth is never a bad thing. I can see three "safeties" being on the field at the same time if one is a RB/TE covering specialist.

The more I read on this the more I am having high hopes Cravens can get over his injury issues.

Can someone clarify for me? He has 2 years left on his deal, yet people keep saying we have him for 3 years, but he wasn't a 1st round pick so he doesn't have a 5th year option...what gives?

Contract sites all stating 3 more seasons. Becomes a free agent in 2021.

Speculating last year did not count against team rights. He was placed on inactive / medical unable to perform before season started. League just reinstated him a few weeks ago.

My question is; Craven was contemplating retirement because of concussion issues, How does coming to Denver address those issues?

From what I've seen there was more to it than just that. There were other issues including a family issue that is apparently no longer an issue.

I believe because he never played last year and was on a Reserve list it means that his contract is tolled, and last year is wiped out, so this year is once again year 2 of his 4 year entry level contract.

They really don't if were being honest. That's why even though Sua is a talented hybrid safety linebacker he is still a risky signing. Why else would the Redskins give him away for essentially a 5th round pick? Even still though, its only a 5th round pick, and its worth the risk if it means we have a reliable player to cover tight ends
