  • Settling In.....Just Over 2 Weeks To The Draft

Maybe it's because we started talking "the offseason" earlier than usual this year, and maybe it's because this group has been extremely knowledgeable of the player situation, both current roster and overall draft class....I just feel like this thing is pretty much locked in now, other than if serious issues arise. Like an off the field discovery.

By this I do not mean things can't change, rather I am pretty worn down in analysis. I know what I want to happen, and I know who I can certainly live with. Yes, there are some options out there I do not want, but as a devoted fan will accept them. This isn't about me. This is about the future of our team.

In fact, over the years, rarely does the team select many of the specific players I wanted. But more important, often they pick the positions I hoped they'd solidify. Maybe not in the round I wanted. It matters not. They have much better information than any of us, so if I want an ILB in round 1 and they land one in round 3, so what?!

I will continue to watch shows re: the draft, primarily NFL Path To The Draft and Total Access. I will continue to read up on things. But other than players suddenly rising or falling, I feel ready for the event to take place.

The fun of the draft is multi-dimensional, given we tend to follow what other teams do as well. As usual, I get excited to see how day one goes, trades that take place, surprising maneuvers by GMs to make a splash with high risk. I can see a lot of trades this year.....perhaps early. I can see us involved as early as round one, or at least a couple or more overall. I love trades, especially bigger ones. Just the kid in me I suppose.

As you can see, I am not talking specifics here. I think we've got them covered elsewhere. Just pumped that we are nearing "show time". I love the draft!!!

I'm just ready for it to all be over. I'm sick of hashing and rehashing every tiny offseason detail to death. Ready to move past it and get to camp where we can get some small idea where this team is at.

Not sure what you consider “past it”.

Will not matter who they pick there will be ongoing “shouldas” from those that wanted another.

Especially if the take a QB. They shoulda picked the other one. And any QB competition will again be divisive. Daily opinions on why Keenum should be starting or benched. And don’t forget the inevitable “Kelly is not getting a fair shot” conspirists.

If we didn’t have all the infighting what would we talk about? 😀

I just can't wait for the Mayock draft, then I can sit back and just watch it come to fruition, that man is a wizard!

A few years back, I think he got all but one or two wrong. Amazing! Hey, if there's a trade or two, it messes with everyone's mocks, but he is one of the very best at it.

Can't wait for his draft, and the real one!!

I like Mayock and find him interesting, he is very good at what he does, but its not a surprise he hits on a lot of the picks. Not only does he spend months going to all the pro days, senior bowl, etc..... to analyse prospects but he is constantly talking to every team in the league, come the draft he will inevitably have a very good idea which direction a team is heading and which prospects they like / dislike

I hear ya!!! We all have our personal prefrences.................. However I think any true Bronco fan will be happy with what Mr. Elway does. We have to remember they are the pro's at this and we have to trust what they think. I do

But I think we are saying that he often nails it, when so many others who work full time in roughly the same capacities, do not.

Now, he's not perfect, and some years that comes to light. But gain, often a trade or two mess everything up for everyone.

                      Just some interesting tidbits:

Maurice jones drew posted a mock that has us trading back with buffalo for their 2 picks and getting mayfield at 12 and daron payne at 22.
                      - he has the browns taking barkley first overall saying barkley will help them win right now and is best player In the draft and then taking chubb at 4
-he has the browns trading back into the first for LJ and The 5th year option

Both walterfootball and charlie casserly have us taking nelson but charlies seems overboard as he has us taking nelson, daniels and jamarco jones 1 through 3

I believe we are closing in on the "fall in love" stage, whereby teams have gotten to know some of the players so well, and know how good they are, that they pretty much expect to have them in their lineups. Getting to this place, there has been a massive amount of effort to evaluate players, interview them, see who fits best on your roster, and complete the due dilgence required of such an important investment.

But at some point, when the smoke starts to clear, specific players become clear favs on each team. And once you love the dude, it is hard to let him go. That is why some teams reach, and some teams trade too much to acquire a player. And although it is important to "want that guy", it is also important to have many options, because a plan B and C and so on can make the most out of a player not being available as hoped.

LOL. The Draft, and that period leading up to it, always reminded me of Thanksgiving. You spend the day smelling the scent of Turkey and wonderful foods cooking, while snacking most of the day, only to sit down at the table, with sensory overload, profoundly disappointed because I would no longer be hungry. With a few exceptions (Drafting Von Miller, trading for John Elway), I am usually disappointed with the results of the Draft. Especially lately.

Past this section of the season...Yes there will be infighting still, but at least we have something fresh to discuss. This section of the season has been thoroughly beat to death...

                            That horse is glue now.
