  • Draft week mock draft

Back in Jan, and Feb I was thinking it would be best for the Broncos if they traded with Buffalo to pick up extra picks to rebuild, (yes I said it), our team. Now that we are getting closer to the draft, there are rumors out there that this indeed may be the route the Broncos take. So here is my draft week mock taking into account the following.

    Trade #5 to Buffalo for #12, #22, #53, and #65
    - That would be our 5th for 2 first round, 1 second round , and 1 third round pick.
    - We will probably get another 2nd next year, but for this year this is where I think it will fall.

    Here is my mock

#12 - DT Vita Vea - This fills a need with the BPA at that point (IMO). With Peko's age, and the uncertainty of Gotsis' legal issues this one pick could help both positions depending on what front the Broncos will play at any given point. The Broncos have also brought him in for an interview, so there is interest there.

#22 - G Will Hernandez - This makes too much sense seeing as Kugler is one of the Oline coaches, and they coached them at the Senior Bowl. Our line would look like this - Bolles, Leary, Paradis, Hernandez, Veldheer

#40 - OLB Lorenzo Carter - Although not an immediate need, but would provide an awesome rotation at OLB with Miller, Ray, Barrett and Carter. He can rush, has the speed and length to cover as well. The Broncos are interested as they have brought him in as well.

#53 - DE Rasheem Green - Again, we do not know what will happen to Gotsis, and hopefully Wolfe can stay healthy. Green provides more depth at a spot where we need more production. Green along with Walker provide a nice rotation at DE. We could possibly have that dreaded pass rush that teams feared again.

#65 - WR Equanimeous St. Brown - We have no #3 WR. St. Brown is a good kid with the talent to take double teams off of Thomas or Sanders. Great size and speed to be a true red zone threat.

#71 - RB Kalen Ballage - I really, really like him. Especially here in the 3rd round. A 6'2" back around 225 that runs a 4.46 40, has great hands, and the power to help us improve our 3rd down numbers. Just imagine, Ballage, St. Brown, Butt, Thomas, and Sanders in the red zone?! Yes, please! Broncos are familiar with him having coached him at the Senior Bowl.

#99 - QB Mike White - He has the smarts, and arm strength to become a good quarterback. Given some time and placing him behind a good offensive line he could be one of the sleepers of this draft.

#106 - OT Martinas Rankin - Another player that the Broncos are interested in. He would need a year to fully develop, but from what I have read and watched, he could provide immediate depth and also be a good starter possibly to replace Veldheer when that time comes.

#113 - ILB Oren Burks - Great value pick that fills a need. He has the speed to cover and the instincts to push to become a starter on this team.

#149 - CB D.J Reed - Kinda small, but man can he play. Especially in the return game. Reading some Kansas State forums, the fans really like this guy. Could provide depth in nickel defenses, especially to cover the smaller slot receivers.

#160 - G/C Will Clapp - Another quality player that may not flash, but is one of those players that will just work. His flexibility to play either guard or center make him a valuable addition to the team.

Well there you go, I believe that with the moves made in FA and with these picks, we solidify and improve both sides of the line. Have the players in place to improve the pass rush which will also improve the secondary. And we also pick up a couple of players that I think the Broncos have been missing. A true 3rd WR and a RB that can create match up nightmares, has the power to pick up the tough yards, can catch out of the backfield, and has the speed to be a threat anytime he touches the ball.

    Have a good afternoon!

I'm hoping for Josey Jewel in the 2nd and either Chubb or Mayfield in the first

i don't think i would accept that deal not enough, i would want a 1 next year a second and 2 firsts. expecially if a top QB is open.

      or 2 seconds 2 firsts.

i am not sold on hernezdes as some people i would go wynn if we go a later round OG. hernezdes technical issues are scary to me and we would need to make sure he gets coached up his physical attributes are great. i just feel wynns more of a complete package but he may take a moment adjusting to OG. nelsons techniques are still heads and shoulders above any other OG in this draft.

I love the mock! I would be thrilled if this is what we got. Only thing I may change is have DJ Chalk as one of the second picks. But awesome mock!

It would be ideal if we got both of Buffalo's first, their 2 seconds, and their first 3rd this year, AND another pick next year. I agree with you that Wynn is a more polished player, but I do not think he will be there at #22. Kugler will make it his personal mission to make sure Hernandez does well.

If we were able to get #56 from Buffalo as well, then Orlando Brown would make sense there.

Sorry to say not going to happen. Denver will use its pick at #5 and draft who ever they deem BPA. I just hope it is not another Reach...

I would still be pushing for a first next year just because we are not getting an this year we may want to be able to move easier to get a top qb or ot prospect next year

Pick 160 sounds like a great teammate to have on the sidelines during tough times. Will Clapp.

Round 1: a.) Saquon Barkley, RB-Penn State or b.) Bradley Chubb, DE-NC State or c.) Quenton Nelson, Left OG-Norte Dame

Round 2: a.) Will Hernandez, Left OG-U⛏EP or b.) Courtland Sutton, WR-SMU or c.) Anthony Miller, Slot WR-Memphis or d.) Marcus Davenport, DE-UTSA

Round 3: a.) Anthony Miller, Slot WR-Memphis or b.) Kalen Ballage, RB-ASU & (compensatory pick) d.) Dallas Goedert, TE-South Dakota

Round 4: a.) Dallas Goedert, TE-South Dakota or b.) Jerry Tillery, DT-Norte Dame & c.) Ross Pierschbacher, Right OG/C-Alabama or d.) Shaun Dion Hamilton, ILB-Alabama

                            Round 5: Joshua Frazier-DT, Alabama & Bo Scarborough, RBF-Alabama & Austin Corbett-Left OG, Nevada

Round 7: a.) Joshua Frazier, DT-Alabama or c.) KC McDermott, Left OG-Miami or d.) Cole Madison, Right OT-Washington State or e.) Richard Lagow, QB-Indiana

Undrafted: Kamryn Pettway, RB-Auburn or Richard Lagow, QB-Indiana

                            For QB;

                            Spring Break vet route:

                            1. Case Keenum free agent (2 yr contract mid upfront & mid incentives)

& Paxton, Kelly or Davis Webb (Mike Sullivan-Phil Simms connection) via a trade involving Kelly away, Lagow

No spread gimmicks or QBs. The Broncos need to commit to a Musgrave West Coast/truck-bruiser RBF style offense that would be optimal with upgrades/depth on O line & an addition of RBF like Barkley, Ballage or Pettway. Keep Keenum in as long as he 📈. 3 losses or 📉, next man up. Trust the process & trading down (stock pile) for more picks our coaches witnessed first hand at the Senior Bowl are the best options for a 5-11 team with a sophomore head coach. I’m not impressed with the QBs in this draft class despite the hype. I wish I could see any of ‘em being an upgrade over a year 3 Paxton. I think Darnold, Allen, Lamar Jackson and Lagow have “it.” Jackson offers more for an RPO spread style that usually injures QBs in the NFL or gets snuffed out by elite NFL defenses. Darnold will probably be gone by the 5th pick. No trading up like we did for Paxton. I also believe Paxton & Kelly have “it.”

Elway & Kubiak have proven they can win with a 🦄 like Peyton & it took that painful SB loss for Elway to learn. I believe they have a 🔥 desire to learn how to draft & develop a long term (10-15 year) answer(s) at QB & revitalize a fading defense.
