  • Who do you draft if you had the first 15 First Round Picks?

So I'll admit, this thought came to me today from back when I used to play Madden and I would create an entire team out of rookies, as much as I could.

So, pretending that you had every pick you wanted in the first round, beginning with the first, and money was not an option, which players (up to 15) would you draft to add to this current Denver Bronco roster. I'll give CPs to my favorites, but a little reasoning needs to be given.

I'll start to give you an idea.

    1. Barkley, RB - arguably the best player in the draft
    2. Mayfield, QB - like his competitive demeanor
    3. Darnold, QB - may be the best QB in the draft
    4. Nelson, OG - best interior OL in draft and solidifies our line
    5. Chubb, DE - an additional pass rusher for our outstanding defense
    6. Smith, LB - improve the position
    7. Fitzpatrick, S - a playmaker in the defensive backfield
    8. McGlinchey, OT - can start right away or develop as the season progresses, but gives us two bookend tackles for foreseeable future
    9. Alexander, CB - brings back the no fly zone
    10. Ward, CB - another member of the new no fly zone and insurance in case Roby leaves
    11. Vander Esch, LB - I just love this guy
    12. Moore, WR - future replacement for Sanders or Thomas
    13. Penny, RB - insurance in case Barkley doesn't pan out or Booker can't stay healthy
    14. Vea, DT - bring him in to further our "Ground Control" defense
    15. Hernandez, OG - another young offensive lineman that will either start or push for a starting position right away

So what do you think? Who do you pick?
Personal goals: GOAL WEIGHT = 250lbs
Weight loss needed for FGW = 120 lbs
Weight lost so far: - 24 lbs

    Defense wins Championships.

I would take Smith, Edmunds, Vander Esch, Evans at LB.Thats 4. Keeping only Miller as a starter.

Fitzpartrick and Derwin James for Safety. Keeping Simmons, Parks, and Cravens

Denzel Ward and Mike Hughes as my CBs to join Harris, Roby, Langley

Chubb, Vea, and Davenport as my line to go with Wolfe, Peko, Gotsis, and Walker

    That's 11 on D. Leaving 4 for Offense.

    Barkley at RB
    Geisicki for TE
    Nelson at G
    DJ Moore at WR.

That's enough to get a few more points on the board and NO one can score on this defense.

I know this. As a young man I used to envision being on a date with Shania Twain or Faith Hill, even though that was never going to occur in “real life”. Still didn’t take the smile off my face pretending.

Come on DenverBlood, live a little.

            Great thread.

            QB - Mayfield
            QB - Rosen
            RB - Barkley
WR - Kirk (need slot, explosive)
TE - Hurst (do it all, self-proclaimed "warrior")
            OT - McGlinchey
            OG - Nelson
            DE - Chubb
            OLB - Landry
            LB - Edmunds
            LB - Roquan Smith
            S - Fitzpatrick
            S - Derwin James
            CB - Ward
            DT - Vita Vea

I don't think there's an exec in the NFL that would pick Vander Esch over Edmunds.

Also, I think having Leary, Nelson, and Hernandez all at guard would be overkill at a non-critical position.

On 104.3 the fan with Dmac and Big Al, they talk about this “ defense win championships” and more times than none its the offense that wins. I forget the number for and against each other but offense wins more. Sort of an eye opener when I heard the numbers.

If I had to pick, I would select: the top 4 QBs
Baker, Darnold, Allen, and Rosen just to hurt other teams. Then trade them for a ransom value later on. Then Vita Vea, Nelson, McGlinchey, Ward, R. Smith, Chubb, Barkley, Fitzpatrick, Davenport, Edmunds

If you really think about it there was NO Defense in the last Super Bowl lol.

This is pretty fun. I will note that my order is not my indication of preference, I just grouped them according to my thought process.

                          1. Quenton Nelson, OG, Notre Dame - OL is our biggest need, and Quenton will provide immediate help in improving that area.
                          2. Mike McGlinchey, OT, Notre Dame - Here we get the top OT in the class, and also someone who has experience with Nelson.
                          3. Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State - Probably the best overall player in the draft. Along with OL additions immediately should put our run game among the top in the league.
                          4. Sam Darnold, QB, USC - My top QB on the board. I don't believe in handing a rookie QB the starting spot, but allow him the chance to compete with Case.
                          5. Josh Allen, QB, Wyoming - This is hard for me. I have Josh as my 5th QB in this class, but he does have the most tools. Having 15 picks allows drafting and waiting to see how he might improve.
                          6. D.J. Moore, WR, Maryland - Moore adds depth to the WR position while potentially starting immediately in the slot.
                          7. Courtland Sutton, WR, SMU - Sutton provides us with a big-bodied receiver that also has speed and quickness. Provides a great future 1-2 with Moore.
                          8. Vita Vea, DT, Washington - .Athletic freak on the DL. I'd be very excited to see what Bill Kollar could do with him.
                          9. Bradley Chubb, EDGE, N.C. State - Chubb and Miller would wreak havoc on opposing quarterbacks.
                          10. Harold Landry, EDGE, Boston College - Can't have enough pass rushers, and Landry is probably the best pure pass rusher in the draft.
                          11. Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia - Great instincts and coverage ability that we need at the LB position.
                          12. Tremaine Edmunds, LB, Virginia Tech - Athletic freak that can play any LB position. Yes please.
                          13. Denzel Ward, CB, Ohio State - As Roby moves up to our #2 CB, who better to take over the #3 spot than the next Bradley Roby?
                          14. Derwin James, S, Florida State - Complete stud that can line up all over the place.
                          15. Minkah Fitzpatrick, S, Alabama - More athleticism and versatility as Fitzpatrick can line up at cornerback or safety.

You'll notice a trend with most of my selections: Athletic ability coupled with positional flexibility. Gives our coordinators plenty of options and opportunity to mix things up.

Guess to concede a little, Balance is the best option but hard to achieve
Last year was a bit of an anomaly.
