  • Yes or no on Paradis and Roby.

First, Paradis. I know many on this board have mixed opinions of him. He is certainly solid, but is he elite? Is he worth a huge contract? At the end of the day I think we should re-sign him. Not only for continuity's sake, but also because I'm not sold on McGovern at OC. Plus, I'm confident Munchak will make him the best he can be.

Next, Roby. I honestly don't believe he proved himself to be a good #2 CB. If he wants a big contract, I say we move on. On the other hand, we would then be incredibly weak at the CB position. I like Yiadom, but I'm not sure about his ceiling. Can he be a decent #2 or #3?

Big no to Paradis, he is not elite, it's not even a conversation. As you said, he is a solid player, but if he is going to earn top 5 center money, I am moving on from him. I doubt he will command as much attention on the free agent market as some people expect, mostly due to the fact that he has only ever had a 2nd round tender placed on him, and he received exactly zero interest around the league based on that. But he will get paid more than I would want to give him, and I have been saying for years we need to potentially at some point look for an upgrade on Paradis, now is that time. I think McGovern handled himself well enough playing center for the first time in the NFL to move on, and I would explore that option more with Munchak as the coach now, he could develop him further.

I’d say no on Paradis because I think McGovern is a better C than RG and will improve this year. Although I doubt Paradis gets a big contract, there was some ligament damage with his most recent injury and he’s already had surgeries on both hips. I question his ability to get to the 2nd level coming off these injuries and aging.

Roby, yes absolutely resign him. He didn’t have a great year to command an elite contract but the new defensive scheme will play to his strengths as a CB. Our CBs as a whole weren’t put in position to make plays on the ball. Too much off man coverage and Roby already struggles getting his head turned to see the ball. With Fangio he’ll be able to play at the LoS and play short routes very aggressively, the key will be getting a S with the range to take away the middle of the field which we don’t have as everyone on the roster is better suited to play SS. Luckily there are a few out there such as Thomas, Mathieu, and Adrian Amos who played for Fangio in Chicago as well as some intriguing options in the draft. Another option would be to switch Simmons with Roby as Roby has that kind of range and Simmons is physical, tall, and jumps well. Something like Richard Sherman

McGovern struggled big time at center didn’t he? I remember a ton of bad snaps and he allowed something like 22 QB pressures or something didn’t he? I remember reading that somewhere recently but can’t remember where 🤔

McGovern did struggle at guard with pass protection, it was in the run game he really excelled. From memory, I believe he did struggle the most against the 49ers at Center with the 0 technique, much like Paradis has done throughout his career here. But I don't recall any bad snaps, none that stood out anyway, and I don't remember it being a consistent trend with him at center, I may be wrong though.

I think Robys down year will be the perfect time to get him cheap for a few years

Tough call for us maybe as Pouncey has yet to sign a new deal with the Steelers. That could be an option. Big Ben taking a cut to sign him, but maybe he likes to play for Munchak.

I think we let Munchak make our OL decisions, I think everyone outside of Denver thinks Paradis is in the top tier of C in the league, always references on National broadcasts and top lists. Is he top 5, no - but close to it and under a better system he could be very good.

Roby did not separate himself this year and hopefully that means we can get him on a cheaper contract, somebody out there may see something more and want to go after him. I think Fangio will look for more ball hawk type players - turnovers and pressure.

crazy how many want to let go of paradis who has been a good center.... he is not top 5 but is the broncos best lineman by far. IMO letting him walk would be a huge step backwards to the O line.

Paradis is a better zone than angle blocker. Scangarello will let Munchak know what he has in mind in the rushing attack. Paradis is better in pass protection when facing a split front. When facing an odd front, he sometimes struggles against big, nasty 0 techs whether run or pass. We'll see what Elway does about a contract for Matt.

                      I agree 100%,
He is better than he played and a new scheme might benefit him.
He's more of a physical zone guy, I think he will benefit from being able to get his eyes on the QB and reading a whole concept, rather than just getting on the hip and playing man.

I didn't pay much to the bears D, I'm just hoping his scheme will be more conducive to Roby..

I say yes to both. Both add a level of consistency to positions that are likely already getting heavily reworked. O-line is potentially looking at 3 new starters even if they keep Paradis. And at CB it is Roby and Harris. They will need to add a couple quality CBs in draft or FA and also see improvement by any young CB they have hanging around. .

Only reason I wouldn't is if there are concerns of Paradis' injury history or they price themselves too highly.

Bigger question is if you choose to let one or both go, who are you realistically expecting to replace them that are either better players or lesser contracts?

I think you can slide McGovern down to center and save a fair chunk of money in the process, while getting a similar level of play. You can then draft a guard in the 2nd/3rd round who could come in and start from day 1, I am a big fan of Michael Dieter from Wisconsin, that's an immediate upgrade. Then you can take the money from the expiring contract of Veldheer, the the expiring contract of Matt Paradis, and move that money onto Ju'Wuan James. James is a well-rounded free agent who is only 26 years old, he is probably the best free agent tackle available.

I see that as using the same amount of money, a draft pick, and free agency, to upgrade the right tackle position, the right guard position, while offsetting the level of play, maybe taking a slight hit at center, while getting significantly younger at 3 positions. Paradis is already 30 and hitting free agency for the first time, with an injury history, these are more reasons not to give him a big pay day in my opinion.

I'd let Paradis walk and sign Ramon Foster, and move McGovern to C. And ask Leary to take a paycut.

Bolles-Leary-McGovern-Foster-? isnt bad with Munchak coaching them up.

Regarding Roby, really depends how much hes gonna get. He'll probably get a 3-4 year deal given his age, but how much per is the question.
