  • New staff, New mock!

With our new coaching staff in place, I felt the need to jot down a new mock. I'm trying to think like Elway thinks and am going to try and do an offseason like I think he would do. Let's give it a whirl!

    Free Agents/Cut Loose:

    Jared Veldheer
    Matt Paradis
    Gino Gradkowski
    Max Garcia
    Domata Peko
    Tramaine Brock
    Shaquil Barrett
    Shane Ray
    Bradley Roby
    Zach Kerr
    Jamar Taylor
    Jeff Heuerman
    Deiontrez Mount
    Brandon Marshall
    Darian Stewart

Big ones here are Paradis, Roby, and Barrett. Easily replaceable and I think the new staff will want their own guys.

    Re-Sign:

OL BIlly Turner (2 years 7 million)
Great swing guy with experience at both guard and tackle. Need to keep him around for depth purposes.

DL Shelby Harris (4 years 28 million)
We simply cannot let this guy get away. If we put a tender on him someone will try and snag him and we will have to match an offer. I would rather just extend him, he's worth this deal.

Tender all of our RFAs with original rd tenders.

    Free Agent Additions:

OT Trent Brown (4 years 36 million)
This will allow is to slide Bolles over to the right side.

    G Ramon Foster (1 year 2.5 million)
Bargain signing for one of Munch's guys. Will compete with Turner to start opposite Leary.

OLB Aaron Lynch (1 year 3 million)
Our replacement for Barrett and Ray. He and Jeff Holland back up Chubb and Von.

ILB Navarro Bowman (1 year 2 million)
He said he wants to play for Fangio. The guy is only 30 and was a stud in San Fran a few years ago. We give him a 1 year "prove it" deal.

    ILB C.J. Mosley (5 years 50 million)
Even though it would be bizarre if Baltimore let him go, it would be even more bizarre if we didn't pursue him.

CB Bryce Callahan (4 years 28 million)
A Fangio guy. He will be the starter opposite Harris.

And we pick up Keenum's option for a 2nd year. I hate paying him 20 million but I feel strongly Elway will.

A good stable of Free Agents, nothing to out of the ordinary. We get upgrades at OT, ILB, and CB and add a couple depth guys.

    Draft:

    1. (10) QB Kyler Murray/Drew Lock/Will Grier
I have a strong feeling that one of these guys will be a Bronco come late April. Elway has been scouting Lock hard. He also sees what Mahomes is doing in KC and envisions Murray being a similar type player. Grier shoots up draft boards after workouts and had a great body of work in college. Honestly, I'd be happy with any of them. I think Haskins is out of our reach unless we sell the house. Elway has a couple he really likes, so he sits still and takes one at 10. My personal preference is; 1. Grier 2. Murray 3. Lock, but again, I would be happy with any of them or Haskins.

    2. (30) *trade with New England* TE T.J. Hockenson (Iowa)
We make a deal with the devil, who are always willing to move down. Elway sees a chance to grab possibly the best TE in the draft and Scangarello wants another George Kittle. Hock has the same skillset and could be a better TE than his teammate Fant (who went earlier.) I feel John thinks Vic and his investment in FA will address the defense, he must use the draft to address the offense. We give up our 2nd and 3rd to move up 11 spots.

    4. (107) WR Parris Campbell (Ohio St)
Elway is obsessed with improving this offense. He grabs a guy with great speed and outstanding production who can also return kicks.

    4. (119) DL Greg Gaines (Washington)
Fangio needs beef up front. I think Harris gets a shot at NT while Wolfe, Gotsis, and Walker man the DE spots. Gaines would fit right in as the back-up for Harris or maybe start at NT if Harris fits better at DE.

    5. (138) C Erik McCoy (Texas A&M)
McGovern is our starting center, we need depth.

    5. (146) CB Rock Ya-Sin (Temple)
Adding quality depth to the secondary is key.

    6. (169) OT Max Sharping (Northern Illinois)
    7. (200) RB Travis Homer (Miami)
    7. (215) OT Paul Adams (Mizzou)
    7. (222) CB Derrick Baity (Kentucky)

There ya have it folks. Watcha think?

Nothing sounds too bad except potentially drafting Murray at 10. There's no chance in hell I spend a premium pick on someone who might choose a different sport. Then of course there's his tiny stature.

I don't see any of these three QB's mentioned being worthy of a top ten pick. If we this people will be whining about drafting them for the next four years and wanting Elways job. Go defense until next year. sign a FA if you want another QB!

I think it will be lock backing up Keenum until the staff feel hes ready or Keenum gets hurt or continues to show the same level of playing he did last yr. If Kelly were on the team still he would have taken over the starter role .

Brown is going to get more than $9 mill per year. This is the same guy Von said was the hardest Tackle he went up against. When he was playing for 49ers. I’m pretty sure Nate Soldier got $14-15 mill per season last offseason?

Doesn't matter what you see. Elway will fall in love with one of these guys. And theyre all as good as Tua, Fromm, or Herbert.

Drafting a Qb is not a guarentee. There is an alright chance that more than one of these Qbs is franchise and there is a good chance that the QBs projected for next years draft dips in performance and is looked at as a 2nd or 3rd round Qb (my money will be on Tua not being as good as currently advertised)

Nothing makes this years QBs worse than last years group which, at this point last year, had two starter quality QBs and one of those two was the worst of the 5 that ended up being drafted in Rd 1

I'd try to keep Roby at a reasonable price. I think he might thrive under Fangio.

I would rather see what Butt, and Fumagali will contribute before spending a R2 + R3 on a trade for TE T.J. Hockenson.
Instead, I would look at TE Caleb Wilson later in the draft.

Simply put, I am afraid Denver is several players away from quality depth and a R3 prospect is much needed given past years' drafts.

R2 BPA DL (Unless LT Greg Little falls here)
R3 BPA OL (Unless RB Bryce Love is available)

Note: Brown is currently playing Guard for NE.

Also...I'm shocked that you didn't want to sign Marshall to a record-setting contract
