This franchise is in flux, we keep showing glimpses, but then let downs. Here’s a mock to make things right!
1. Allen gets 2 more weeks and after losses, we start Drew Lock the final 4 games. He shows a lot of promise and also a lot of inexperience going 2-2 which puts us at 5-11 and the #6 pick in the 2020 draft.
2. We retain the entire coaching staff and Elway. However, Elway hires a real GM in Ed Dodds from Indy. John still has a say in personnel, but Dodds has the final say.
The offseason;
Re-sign/extend;
DE Shelby Harris
NT Mike Purcell
ILB A. J. Johnson
S Justin Simmons
Harris and Simmons will cost some coin but we simply cannot let these guys walk. Purcell and Johnson should be reasonable.
We also tender all Restricted Free Agents
Let walk/cut:
RB Devontae Booker
C Conner McGovern
G Ron Leary
DE Derek Wolfe
DE Adam Gotsis
CB Chris Harris
P Colby Wadman
These guys will all walk. We can’t commit to both Simmons and Harris, Dodds and Elway wisely stick with the youth.
Free Agent Additions:
DE Chris Jones (5 yrs 90 million)
ILB Cory Littleton (4 yrs 40 million)
CB Trae Waynes (3 yrs 27 million)
P Tress Way (3 yrs 12 million)
We invest heavy on defense. Jones is a beast on the d-line and an immediate upgrade at DE. Littleton gives us a lethal combo at ILB finally with Johnson. Waynes is Harris’s replacement, slight downgrade but still a solid CB. Way is a real punter, not the trash we’ve been trotting out there for the past 5 years.
Draft;
1. (#6) LT Andrew Thomas (Georgia)
If he falls here, Dodds and Elway should be sprinting to the podium. A legit talent and a safe pick. A cornerstone piece for the next decade or so. This kicks Bolles down inside.
1. C Tyler Biadasz (Wisconsin)
We trade back into the back end of round 1 to continue to address our porous o-line. Can’t go wrong with a Badger here. We give up our 2nd and 4th to move into the mid 20s.
3. WR Tylan Wallace (Okla St)
Sutton is a legit stud, after him we have a nice stable of young guys and add to that stable here. Wallace is a nice possession guy who will for nicely as a #3 WR.
3. CB Shaun Wade (Ohio St)
We add another young CB to our group. Wade has the tools to be a #1.
Rounds 4-7
We select (in no particular order)
1 o-lineman
2 d-linemen
2 olb pass rushers
Lets be contenders again!
