Denver “should" acquire CB Xavien Howard.

On paper, trading for another CB in an already crowded CB room seems redundant, but Denver should. A CB core of Howard, Fuller, Darby, and PS2 would overwhelm KC's passing game with Miller and Chubb both back healthy. Ojemudia, Callahan, and next year's 5th to Miami for Howard seems reasonable for a player wanting out. Callahan's trade saves 7M. OJ's saves another 800K. Ojemudia is a poor man's version of PS2, whose future contract goes to Howard now. PS2, fourth in CB-depth, could be lethal next to Juston Simmons at SS.

Xavien Howard: 4 years left of 5-years @ 75M
Kyle Fuller: 1 year @ 9M
Ronald Darby: 3 years @ 30M
Patrick Surtain II: 4 years @ 21M

That's roughly 35M on CB in 2021.

Concern: Howard's significant knock is he's played 56/80 games but has 22 ints.

Kyle Fuller is only signed for this year, so next year roughly 26M would be allocated for CBs in 2022.
Kary Vincent Jr. is an intriguing replacement for Fuller next year.

But, yeah, it's only a dream scenario. One that could potentially neutralize KC's passing game.

I like Ojemudia too, but I like Howard more. Just curious, is there a specific game or highlight video that makes you believe Ojemudia will be a Super Great CB for Denver? Hopefully, Mike O. will beceome a Super Great CB for Denver on a team-friendly contract.

When I watched Mike Ojemudia he was a rookie last year and he played surprisingly spectacular. Of course he had few Rookie moments however that was expected. When he was on he had some real Great CB Coverage and Few Great Pass Breakups. I believe even Coach Fangio praised him a little and trust me when you get praise from Vic Fangio that Master of Defense that goes a long way because we all know that he does not praise a lot lol 😂. Just think what he can do in Year 2. I would not be surprised to see him even make it to the Pro Bowl this year that would be epic. The only thing holding him back is that now this Year Denver is loaded with CB’s by signing 2 and then using the 1st round pick on PS2 makes now a Super Crowded CB Room. Still puzzled as to why the GM signed to CB FA then Drafted one in the first oh well what is done is done. I really do think Mike O. will be a real Special Player for Denver for Years to come I hope.

Howard wants to be traded because he wants more money. So we’d likely end up putting even more money into the CB spot. Howard would be great, he’d also likely be one of the first guys moved if a new regime comes in as he’s currently 28 and will be a huge cap hit going into his 30s. I’d probably take the older Stephon Gilmore in this scenario, easier to move on from but still very good and probably cheaper to acquire.

However I think we’re fine standing pat. Fuller will be very good this year, Darby will probably be good as well as Callahan in the slot. If one of those guys go down I feel comfortable with OJ stepping in. I say OJ and not Surtain because I think Surtain is going to be a specialists who covers TEs for much of this season. Then of course there’s Vincent and Bassey who project as nickel guys and Jackson can play CB in a pinch with Johnson/Sterns filling in behind him.

This is really an extremely talented secondary with a great mixture of experience and youth. No reason to mess with it too much unless you’re going all in for a super bowl.

no i really like what we have at CB. Fully DArby Callahan and Surtain look legit and i feel really comfortable with what we have at CB with OJ as a developemental guy he looked good as a rookie we have a really good db room

You made several good points. I appreciate your love for Ojemudia and look forward to watching him play this year. Do you think our current CB depth can neutralize KC's potent passing game? Rookie RB Williams coupled with an improved OL has me optimistic against the Chargers and Raiders.

PS2 covering opposing TEs makes a lot of sense. Do you expect PS2 to start at SS or replace an ILB on passing downs?

We are definitely loaded at CB with Fuller, Callahan, Darby, Ojemudia, and PS2. I'm excited about Kary Vincent Jr too and hope no one claims him from our PS. I cannot wait to see what our defensive back group looks like this year.

BTW, I may be in the minority here but every year I expect a Lombardi. However, reality usually sets in around week 10.

I definitely think it’d be one of Jewell/Johnson coming off. He will have to be very strong in the run game if that’s the case. We might see Jackson slide down to LB and Surtain replace him in the secondary

i feel like theres a good chance Baron Browning beats out Jewell as a starter.
