I do expect the Broncos to trade down. I think trading up is unlikely. This draft is going to be more for depth moving forward. We may get 1 or 2 starters for this year but I think that's it. I do think we can get up to 4 starters out of this draft if all goes well in their development.
I didn't go crazy with trades, just 2 to go from 5 to 7 picks, as well as a few future mid-round picks in 2024. That seemed reasonable and I did not include any players in a trade because I don't see the Broncos doing that with limited draft picks and little cap space.
I just drafted the way the board fell in the simulator. Here we go:
67. Jaelyn Duncan, OT, Maryland. We need to address the lack of depth at OT and be ready to replace Bolles if this is his last year. A year to sit and develop will benefit Duncan greatly.
68. Gervon Dexter, DT, Florida. Gotta fix the middle of our defense. Dexter's got the skills and production. I think he can be a dominant IDL.
119. Ricky Stromberg, C, Arkansas. May be a little early for him to be picked but we need a center and sometimes you just gotta make sure you get your guy.
142. Sean Tucker, RB, Syracuse. Broncos need better depth at RB and I think his skill set is something that adds another dimension to this offense.
158. Jakorian Bennett, CB, Maryland. Tough and physical. Was a safety at junior college. Could end up being our top nickel CB.
190. Dylan Horton, DE, TCU. Has the traits, but needs some refining.
229. Dontayvion Wicks, WR, Virginia. 6' 2", 200 lbs. A big bodied WR. A flier pick.
Like I said, I just let the board fall, made realistic trades and took players I think the Broncos could very well take if there.
As much as I wanted to take a LB, the board just didn't fall that way. And with limited draft picks, I don't think they'll take a flier at LB compared to other positions.
Well, there it is. Praise it, bash it, do what you will...
Edit note: I couldn't copy my mock from the site so I just wrote in my picks and accidentally put Adetomiwa Adebawore at 190. That was wrong, he was much higher on the mock draft board and was gone before pick 67. Horton was the pick at 190. I just mixed them up when copying what I wrote down and doing my original post.
