While we certainly understand the frustration by fans on all sides of the discussion, we have decided to keep the Broncos Country message boards separate from politics. Recent events have brought the NFL to the forefront of political debates, but due to the highly emotional and passionate discussion it tends to involve, we think it’s best to continue to keep politics and this forum separate. Yes, the forum is meant for discussion, but we’d like to keep that discussion to football as much as possible.
With everything going on in our country, it would be nice to keep our complaints and cheers purely related to football here. If you feel passionately, there are plenty of other outlets available to you to express your opinions. We know this isn’t the most popular decision, but we ask that you respect it.

AJ is seriously nothing short of a genius. Don't compare a HC to a GM.
Last time I checked the 49ers won back to back superbowls in 88,89 Craigs played 3 years after the niners let him go. So you are correct they didn't keep him too long. You can throw up his stats his last year with the niners but he was hurt alot that year and played through a sprained knee..same thing Tomlinson missed a playoff game for..lol
Until you have some hardware don't even bother comparing AJ to Walsh..besides that Walsh was the coach too.

LT had 1100 yds rushing in 08. He cut him once he had his first sub 1100 yd season. Were is the blindness??
AJ is nothing short of flawless. He really is.
He fired Marty for Norv... I'm going to question that move as much as I am going to state a fact... Norv is QB coach he is passing coach which means the running game is important but not at pivotal as it is to Marty... So here's AJ's first mistake: Instead of understanding this and getting value... He lets Turner walk for NOTHING, and resigns an aging LT. Then 2 years later... LT walks for NOTHING. The move should have been to trade LT for a 1st or 2nd rounder and sign Turner. Other great GMs make those kinds of moves AJ is to weak to do it and as a result had to use a first day pick on a RB Hester... That pick could have been a NT and Jamal could have been traded for value... Instead he let's him walk for NOTHING... Merriman wants to leave and will eventually leave for NOTHING... This is not good management. There's more to being a quality GM then the draft... It's management of the salary cap, contracts and knowing when to buy and sell... Rod seriously look at this year... The Chargers got real lucky that the CBA wasn't renegotiated... If it was SD would have had a ton of UFA's... Again bad management... I'm not saying AJ is the worst because he's not he's good... But contrary to your belief he's flawed.

These other "great" GMs all passed on Michael Turner FIVE TIMES in the 5th round of the 2004 draft. AJ's mistake was he couldn't afford the backfield of his draft choices - LT, Turner, and Daren Sproles.
LT was only 28 and one year removed from being the NFL MVP. Trading him and keeping Turner - an unproven back at the time - would have been career suicide if LT flourished and Turner didn't.
Besides, one could argue that LT had a better season than Turner in '09.

One could also argue that the universe revolves around Mars. I think that we all know though who the better RB is out of the two. And, who is more likely to be the better producer over the next 4 seasons. Once again, knowing how players will develop is what GM's get paid to do and very few outside of SD felt at the time that keeping Tomlinson over Turner was a good thing. Face it, AJ blew that one.

That's an excellent point. AJ or any charger GM has additional pressure with respect to aging "superstars" because of it. Usually only reserved for QB's...
