You have to give it some validity since we've now heard it from mulitple sources.

According to ESPN blogger Bill Williamson, Seattle had the right contract along with the right compensation ready to go for the Vincent Jackson deal. The issue was Braylon Edwards DWI in New York earlier this week. Paul Allen called our GM (Petey himself) and told him to pull the deal off the table. The Rams did the same thing. That only left the Vikings, which obviously didn't happen either.

In my opinion, this is stupid. I do understand that Jackson has 2 arrests for this same reason, however, what does that have to do with Braylon Edwards. Jackson is a far superior player to Edwards, and is worth the risk. Once again, our management is hamstringing us from becoming a good team now. This sucks.

Why is that? It is classic, and true. Lets see what others on this board think.

Because it misrepresents VJax and and makes the distinction that this isn't a business issue, when it actually is.

It just irks me how everyone always takes managements side.

So your saying you side with VJ?? He could have been paid well over 3 mil this year, Been an unrestricted FA at the end of the year, and if he could show that he had straightened his act out could have received the huge payday he was looking for if not by the Chargers then by someone else for sure.

Hard to put the Blame on AJ in this situation. He isnt the one with 2 DUI's nor is he the one who was in trouble with the law on the morning of a playoff game.

I don't side with anyone, I just understand that VJ is trying to maximize his earning potential in a high risk industry. I don't understand why people vilify him.

Question: why is ok for teams to cut players under contract but not ok for players to hold out? It's the same exact thing.

I have no problem with a player holding out. My point is a player with his track record off the field should have taken the max he could get for this year & bust his ass to prove he could get his act together.

Then he probably would have been well paid for by the Chargers. They take care of their own as long as they can keep nose clean....just look at Rivers, Gates, Dielman, Castillo, Jammer, etc etc.

He played his cards all wrong and now its gonna cost both sides.

WHY? LOL! Um dude. They are the EMPLOYER. Let me ask you. Anyone at your work get fired? Isn't that the employers choice right or wrong?

Now let me ask you to do this. Go tell your boss that you're not coming back into work because you think you are worth more than 50k that you are making. Tell him you'd like a raise to 250k. See where that gets you.

Yes pro sports are different I understand. But the principle is the same.

They usually cut players for underperformance. Fair enough. AND GUESS WHAT? They have to honor the remaining contract... Unless another team picks it up. They still get paid!

                      HOLDING OUT?

It's straight up greed brought on by some unathletic pencil pusher agent looking for the BIGGER BETTER DEAL ALWAYS. VJ was offered a 1 year tender that was more than 5 times his current contract. He said no. He had MONTHS to decide to take it or not. When they stalled the Chargers said here's the deadline, after that we are taking the money off the table. That is totally within their rights. VJ is the property of the San Diego Chargers. VJ and his retarded agent overplayed their hand. They wanted a contract that was in line with the top WR's out there. Sorry charlie VJ you aren't a Top NFL WR superstar in line with Andre Johnson, Randy Moss, Larry Fitzgerald etc etc. Not to mention your numerious BONE headed plays (kicking the challenge flag in the playoffs) and 2 DUI's. 1 more and it's a year suspension. That is why NO OTHER TEAM WILL TOUCH HIM!

San Diego said all along that come in sign your 1 year tender and we'll work a long term deal out over time. ALA Marcus McNeill. He's now playing for 600+k, down from 3 million. That is HIS fault. BUT! They are working on a long term deal. So please don't side with the greedy agent. I love what AJ did. Also, the verbage in that song is basically correct.

Yeah I am going to have to side with this for sure. Even if a player out preforms his current contract, in my opinion he should wait until his next contract to get the benefits. The player signed the original deal and knew exactly what he would make and he gave it the ok when he slapped his signature on it. Jackson needs to understand that if he plays hard and keeps his mouth shut like Doom did then the vast majority of the time an organization will reward you handsomely. I hate all the players that sign 5 year deals and want to renegotiate after 2 years in, its ridiculous and you hold the franchise hostage with the hard cap because a gm is not expecting to break the bank and screw up spending when you are already under a deal. Players these days and society in general has way to much self entitlement, its sickening.

Not sure who you are talking about here, but it doesn't apply to Vincent Jackson.

VJ played through (and outperformed) his 5 year deal. He is in his 6th year, and yet due to the rules of the uncapped season, he got stuck in restricted free-agency limboland. The problem came when AJ made it quite clear that the Chargers have no intentions of even negotiating with him on a long-term contract. Most teams used that as a carrot to bring in the RFA's. Not AJ. He was brutally honest about Jackson's standing with the team.

If Jackson had forced a trade, he likely would've received a lucrative 1-year deal with promises not to franchise him, or the multi-year deal he is looking for. He came very close to getting his wish, and still might be traded by the deadline. Like theQBGuru said, you can't fault the guy for trying to maximize his earnings.

The problem was that 2 very stubborn individuals met head-on. Neither VJ nor AJ will be bullied into doing something they don't want to do. The result is a standoff which will likely last all year.

All he had to do is sign the tender. HE refused! Let me repeat. HE REFUSED. Not to mention he has off the field issues. He has a history of making stupid decisions on the field. It was widely reported that his 2 dui's were a factor in not trading for him with the Rams, Seahawks, and Skins. He is at fault for his actions.

Average WR salary is about 1.1 million in the NFL. So he would be making 3 times more than the median. It was a one year tender. The owner Alex Spanos PUBLICLY stated he wanted VJ here. He said sign your tender come in and we'll negotiate a long term deal.

                              He still refused.

I don't care what you say QBguru. VJ and his agent overplayed their hand. Now he's watching football instead of playing it. Let me ask you. Is 3.6 million fair compensation? Or is he getting ripped off?

Quit acting like poor poor lil VJ is getting a raw deal. IMO there was fault on both sides. Bottom line is sign your tender in good faith join your team, kick ass and get the long term deal you're looking for. Or act like you're the best WR in the game and wish to be paid accordingly and you get to sitout and watch football.

The one really getting hurt in this is VJ. NFL players performance window is relatively small. Sitting out a year is hurting no one but himself. Sign the tender like MM and go from there.
