Now that the dust has settled from Sunday's disasterous finish, it's time for Bronco fans to admit what the rest of us already know......the Josh McDaniels Era is over.
Like the others before him, Josh McDaniels is nothing more than an over-rated assistant from the Bill Belichick/New England Patriots system.
Romeo Crennel, Cleveland Browns (2005–2008)
Al Groh, New York Jets (2000)
Eric Mangini, New York Jets (2006–2008), Cleveland Browns (2009–present)
Nick Saban, Miami Dolphins (2005–2006)
Jim Schwartz, Detroit Lions (2009–present)
They are great coordinators under his system. But, they are incapable of leading an NFL team on their own. They try and mimick his ego and his style. What is natural for Belichick seems forced by his under-studies. Take Josh and his Hoodies - does anything scream Daddie Issues more than that? Josh is finally on his own, yet he yearns to be with/like his football father figure....so he dresses like him each week.
But, the real issue for Josh is his attempt to have a "Belichick-like ego" fighting against his "desire to be liked by others". This was never more evident than last year when he lost the ego battle with Cutler and then intentionally divided the clubhouse. Drawing a line between "Shanahan's guys" and "McD's guys".
He ran the likes of BMarsh, Hillis, and Schefer out of town. He did away with the heart-and-soul of the Broncos offense - the ZBS. He even made Mike Nolan decide to leave - after only one year as DC. The risk of these moves was losing all that talent (and, at the time, the #6 offense). The reward was having "his guys".
Even Kyle Orton (who was the byproduct of a trade) fell victim. McD didn't view Orton as the long-term solution....therefore, Kyle wasn't given a long-term contract. In fact, Josh used 4 picks from the first four rounds last year to draft Tim Tebow.
For most of us, we were at the scene of this train wreck before it happened. We warned Denver fans, but they wouldn't listen.
Many of them have arrived to the scene - disgusted by what has become of their franchise. Being favored by 8 points and then losing by 45 points at home to the Raiders is enough for them.
Still there are others who think that Josh just needs more time. More time to install his system. More time for Tebow to develop. One more offseason of picking up other team's free agents. One more draft.
This thread is not about the Chargers problems this season.....so, save it.
This thread is not about San Diego's "franchise"....so, save the trophy polishing.
This thread is only about your team hitting rock bottom. The Darkest Days in Denver.
