As a fan of the AFL, and our history in the West, this Sundays game between KC and Oakland is fitting.

Someone other than the Chargers playing for first place for once.

I respect the direction Tom Cable has gone with the Raiders. He has made them into a hard-nosed running team that is playing tough defense.

That style has been imployed by the Chargers as well recently, so it is no wonder the Raiders score was similar to some of those abominations against the Chargers the Broncos have suffered.

Todd Haley is riding the crest of a wave of good fortune, primarily in terms of keeping his guys healthy. The Chiefs and Bucs embody what the NFL has become, the flash team that can make a move if everything breaks right for them.

Very interesting game this Sunday, but since it's in the Black Hole, I say the Raiders win

    Oak 23
    KC 13

It's a nice (Raider) perspective to finally see a November game against KC mean something. Nearly a decade.

KC's running attack will test the Raiders' defense.
A key to victory for Oakland will be to contain the run.

Oakland's run game must continue to produce.

Passing attacks will reflect the success of the run game. Whoever is forced to rely on the pass will be at a disadvantage in this game.

Looking forward to a memorable AFC West rivalry-game. Hopefully a good memory.

I find it funny how the Chiefs with 5 wins and the Raiders with just 4 wins are being suddenly crowned as teams that have both turned corners and are taking over this division. I'm going to LMAO if either of these two teams crash and burn and miss the playoffs. The thing is I'm not buying into all the hype until they actually do something relevant which both teams, if they are what everyone says and thinks they are, should easily put up winning seasons. The season is barely half over and donks are coming out of the woodwork crowning these two teams as if suddenly they've reached elite status. Lets not get carried away here.

        Quote of the year:

Pretty sure you're the one getting carried away with what a few people have stated on these boards if you're going to insist that we Broncos fans are stating the Chiefs and the Raiders are elite teams.

First off, I don't think that anyone's crowing anyone -- both teams still have a lot to prove to most. Secondly, both the Chiefs and the Raiders have a heck of a lot more history of relevancy than do the Chargers...or perhaps you forgot that.

This coming from a fan of a team that EVERY YEAR is nothing but HYPE! And never do NOTHING except win division titles.

So, will it be really that hard for you to admit you were wrong when San Diego is sitting at home for the playoffs in THIRD PLACE this year?
              sigpicoh YEAH?

Oakland and KC are not suddenly crowned division contenders, champs, or whatever title you decide to pin on us through the story in your mind.

Lets stick to the facts, rather than your mindful assertions.

                Fact: Oakland has defeated SD
                Fact: KC has defeated SD

SD is 0-2 in the division, 0-4 on the road, and 2-3 in the AFC, low in tie-breakers. The hole they've dug is certainly shallow enough to climb out from, but it must begin today. On the road. versus an AFC opponent (see tie-break)

Fact: as of today, both Oakland and SD are still in the mix. That's it. I've personally never said anything about the Raiders winning the division or deserving of any 'crown'. It has become clear that this division is no longer SD's to win.

Don't confuse the current feelings of Raider optimism with delusuions of grandeur. I certainly realize there are several possible scenarios and all I ever said was it's nice to be in the mix in November...it's been a while.

First off, no one has said they have turned the corner and are elite. But they sure as heck have looked better then SD this year which isn't saying much.

And let me guess, you think SD is going to run the table and finish 11-5.

IF, IF SD beats Houston, then maybe they go on one of their late season runs. But without Floyd, VJ, Naanee, Davis, and Gates. I don't know how Rivers will do without all of that. Gates is such a big part to the Dolts offense.

I don't see you beating the Colts at INDY on SNF in Peyton's house.

SD is 0-2 in the division, 2-3 in the AFC, and not so great on the road, the tiebreaker situation is tough for them. They still have road games at Houston, at Cincy, at Denver, at Indy.

As to the game, i got the Raiders winning 17-13.

Cable is the longest-tenured coach since Gruden which has brought some level of consistency for the team, albiet an overall level of poor performance. I'm ambivalent about him; as long as Al Davis is behind the curtain, the Raiders head coach will always be a device for Davis' often-strange decisions.

Cable has shown he is willing to go his own way when he benched the fat guy in favor of Gradkowski last season. Chubby was still Davis' shiny toy back then, so that took some guts on Cable's behalf.

The key elements to the early limited-succes of the Raiders has been Hue Jackson and John Marshall. Their game-plannig and adjustments have shown guarded success and subsequent optimism, something Raider fans haven't experienced in eight seasons.

Of course, if the Raiders' proven overall inconsistencies and weak run-D allow KC any room, then it will be a long day. This game will be the litmus-test for a Radier team that may be without Asomugha and Z Miller. The 31st ranked run-D will be either proven underrated or be plowed under. At least its a sell-out and the locals will be able to see it on TV.

I pictured Dennis Green pounding the podium in this post.

It's funny how you refute points that Mindfield didn't even approach. He's talking about this upcoming game that's for first place positioning, KC can enhance their lead, Oakland can get to 1/2 a game back going into the bye with a head to head victory.

He's talking about the direction of Tom Cable's team and Haley's team making a move that has put them in the current situation, which is atop the division.

Now if you want to crown our asses so you can uncrown them in the same sentence and debate yourself, be our guests.

Very well put and I am sending you cp.

I think he is just mad that nobody gives a flying crap when the Chargers are winning the divison with minimal resistance. I look forword to the Cheifs Raiders game myself. Not alot of love between the two teams in the past. I hope that bleeds down to the current players as well for todays game. I loved it when we (afcwest) was the hardest contested division crown in the NFL.
