  • The Bolts Red Zone problems

This is not intended to be smack. Instead it's an outsiders perspective of your team. I would have put this in the Chargers forum, but that is practically dead.
    ------

After watching your team for the 4th time this year, I've come to realise what your main problem is. It's not special teams. While your special teams is bad, and in need of improvement, it is not your achilles heel.

Instead, your weakness IMHO, is your red zone offense and defense. While you move up and down the field with ease, you settle for a lot of field goals.

When the other team gets the ball, you cause a lot of punts. But you also give up easy scores when they get near the red zone.

The stats for your team, agree with me. Being the first team to be both top 3 in offense and defense, yet miss the playoffs is not a goal. Instead, it's the red flag of what needs to be fixed.

Yes any time your without 2 of your biggest Red Zone threats (Gates & VJ) you may struggle. I'm pretty sure the team was still in the Top 5 as far as scoring offense goes so I wouldn't just pin it on the redzone offense as to why they missed the playoffs.

Agreed, RZ problems were big, but I still would place a lot of blame on the special teams.

You guys have a great kicker, great punter and great return man in sproles. When you look at that stuff, you'd think you guys would be top 5 in that category too. But man, your coverage team and protection has been awful this year.

Yesterday your special teams let us back in the game (kick return for TD and muffed onside).

It will be interested to see what you guys do to improve your special teams. New special teams coach I'd have to guess, but what else? Because like I said, based on your K, P and KR/PR man, you guys are very dangerous.

Id put the blame on losing to teams you had no business losing to. ( rams, seahawks)

But I look at Brady and Manning. Manning lost top targets and didn't have a run game, but made the playoffs. Brady is just unwordly right now, let's be real. Rivers probably hasn't had his best season yet, but this is why he's on the lower tier than those two.

We are in mourning...we are honoring the loss of our hopes, dreams...and bets in Vegas.

Rivers still led the league in passing and was 2nd to Brady in QB rating. He doesn't block punts on special teams nor can he stop his young RB from constantly fumbling in the redzone which cost them q couple games early on in the season. Rivers is the reason they still had a chance late in Ill come in but im not gonna use it...the season to make the playoffs. He wasn't the reason they didn't make it.

Anyone trying to pin the Chargers not making the playoffs on Rivers is just hating on him.

VJ hurt too. Malcom Floyd doesn't have great hands like VJ for that corner route close to the endzone.

the reason they missed the playoffs was ST and turnovers

                      that's it

and alot of turnovers were indeed in the redzone

with a tougher schedule, the D wouldn't have been in the top 10 IMO

our schedule was so soft, yet we imploded on a massive (ST's and turnovers) scale

Like they said in that show... A qb gets too much blame for a loss and too much credit for a win.

                            OK.

                            I'll be 100% frank.

You miss LT. With him in his prime, you didn't settle for field goals...

Well since he hasnt been in his prime since 07' I dont see how having him this year would have changed much.
