Anthems and Protests ---
While we certainly understand the frustration by fans on all sides of the discussion, we have decided to keep the Broncos Country message boards separate from politics. Recent events have brought the NFL to the forefront of political debates, but due to the highly emotional and passionate discussion it tends to involve, we think it’s best to continue to keep politics and this forum separate. Yes, the forum is meant for discussion, but we’d like to keep that discussion to football as much as possible.
With everything going on in our country, it would be nice to keep our complaints and cheers purely related to football here. If you feel passionately, there are plenty of other outlets available to you to express your opinions. We know this isn’t the most popular decision, but we ask that you respect it.
Thank you for understanding.

Ryan Leaf was voted the biggest bust in the history of the NFL by ESPN.
The Dolts picked a dolt.
I mean aside from the legal issues, no only did he stink up the field, but he was a immature as clown to top it off.
#2 was Tony Mandarich, Mike Golic said he is the number one, not leaf.
Tony Mandarich was a bust, but mostly because of who was selected after him. I've gotta say Jamarcus Russel is giving Ole Leaf a run for his money IMO.

leaf was still worse than JR, there may have been a little more hype for Russell just because of manning being there as well.
and JR was the #1 overall draft pick while leaf was #2. but when you consider just how bad leaf really was on the field, combined with the locker room melt downs and the fact that the chargers traded up to get him....it makes it the perfect crap storm of a monumental bust.
JaMarcus Russell 18 TD 23 int 4,083 yards 65.2 rating 25 fumbles w/l record 7-18
ryan leaf 14 TD 36 int 3,666 yards 50.0 rating 24 fumbles w/l record 4-17

there is no comparison lol
Didn't Ryan Leaf come out of a pro-style offense?
sigpic
"Maybe if he had an iron suit or a magic hammer...."

OK, you win. lol
I'm still going with Leaf being bust 1A and JR being 1B. You'd be hard pressed to find guys as highly touted, as highly paid, and as big of a waste as those two.

I remember Leaf when he was going into the draft. My memory isnt very good but I think i remember them saying he threw a better deep ball and had better physical traits than Manning. QB is a crap shoot especially that high in the draft. you seem to have recovered with Brees and Rivers tho.
When you look at who was selected in the first 5 picks of the 89 draft, 4 are Hall Of Famers - Troy Aikman, Barry Sanders, Derrick Thomas, and Deion Sanders - and one was a collosal bust.
Of the first 5 picks, he was the one touted by Sports Illustrated as the one "can't miss' prospect.
People around these parts still haven't come to terms with that selection.

He's on ESPN Network right now as #2... let's see who #1 is.....

Don't forget, passed on Michael Vick and traded Drew Brees, thanks.
Did well in 2004, though -- but the failure-stink jumped over onto Philip Rivers.
But in Rivers' defense, he has looked very good while not contending at all in the postseason.
we didn't trade brees lol, and we didn't pass on vick, we traded the #1 pick which turned into vick, so that we could get LT and other considerations (and that i'd say was the better move as LT turned out to be a better rb than vick was as a qb, plus vick got jailed)
brees left via free agency, and only had 2 teams bidding on him due to his horribly mangled labrum (which 'miraculously' healed.....)
