2011 (both Manny and Floyd had matches that sold 1.2 million+)

    WWE/UFC:

    WWE:

    Wrestlemania 27: 1 million

    2011:

    1. UFC 129: GSP Vs Shields – 800,000 PPV Buys

    2. UFC 141: Lesnar Vs Overeem – 750-810,000 PPV Buys

Speak for yourself. MMA is the fastest growing sport in probably the world. I'm in a town of just over 80,000 and there's around eight MMA gyms and zero boxing gyms. TV deals, movie deals, exercise equipment and workout programs. Boxing has kept its popularity simply because there's a marquee fight once every ... what ... two years? At just about every gym I've had memberships there's some form of cardiovascular MMA mixture classes.

Try looking beyond just ppv sales because that's probably a very small fraction of the sports following.

I can't speak for WWE stuff. Never followed it.

I would be curious to see what the PPV totals for all fights were between Boxing vs UFC in 2011. I have always thought the UFC makes their fighters fight too often, and they obviously have way more scheduled events than boxing does. I would gander these numbers would be a great deal closer and UFC may have actually had more total PPV purchases than boxing did in 2011.

I am a fan of both, but think the UFC is on an upward trend while boxing is on the decline.

It's a thing the UFC says to hype itself up. In all reality all of Manny and Floyd's fights last year sold more than any UFC in history.

its crazy becuase its all over tv i see people with mma shirts on every where i go there are always aspiring mma fighters everywhere and i could instantly have a convo with someone about a random mma fight. boxing? not so much. people have no clue who i talk about half the time which makes me lose interet in it becuase im watching it by myself. i think its really odd that the numbers dont match up.

Boxing is almost dead. And that's pretty sad to say but it's true. The fights always seem fixed and the best fights never happen or are a huge let down. Other than mayweather and PAC man there's really no other polarizing boxers. They are all old. UFC is more intriguing than boxing. Probably because Dana white owns the fighters. There aren't managers and promoters than hinder or control the fight. At least with the UFC it is corrupted... And I hope it never does but money changes alot of things.

Boxing is only dying in America. Outside of America that's another story....

If you want to include out of us sports you're forgetting the most popular of them all, soccer.

Boxing is irrelevant. I remember when you could catch a fight once or twice a week especially on Friday Night Fights (I'd watch with my grandfather) and they were reasonably good fights. Now there's nothing. The product sucks overall. It's not exciting. I'd be willing to bet there's a local MMA fight near me within a reasonable driving distance that's happening this weekend or at least within the next couple of weeks. I can't say the same about boxing.

Same could be said about soccer. But everyone knows that football is a whole lot better than soccer. But then again it's what you prefer. Now I love fighting. Boxing is fundamentally essential when learning to fight. Yet 90% of all real fights end up on the ground. That's why I converted to BJJ. That's what's great about MMA. I would rather be good at many disciplines than great at one. Now there's fighters I know are great strikers, Which I'm not by any stretch. But if I take them down they are in trouble. The UFC has the potential of becoming an amazing organization. As long as it doesnt become corrupted like boxing.

Soccer...I used to hate it but then I started watching Madrid games and now I love it. Not mas much as Football but it's good.

Anyways UFS will NEVER even get to Tennis status.

That's only because I would take girls in short skirts over sweaty dudes beating the crap out of each other. But honestly why would you watch it otherwise. But men playing tennis? It's almost like men playing softball professionally. Now the world cup is very exciting. But I'll take watching Anderson Silva kicking dudes in the face twice a year.

Funny you say that because Tennis has +30,000,000 (per month) keyword searches globally compared to MMA AND Boxing's shared 30,000,000.

Global Monthly Searches on Desktop Devices/Browsers:

                          Tennis

                          UFC/MMA
                          18,580,000

Global Monthly Searches on Mobile Devices/Browsers:

It is odd but think of it like this. In ratings NFL is 1#, MLB is 2# and the NBA is 3#. The NFL leads by a SIGNIFICANT margin. It's all about marketing. The NFL and MLB don't have to do nearly as much hyping or marketing as the NBA because their fanbase is already set in stone.

Would you believe it if I told you that Golf has better ratings than the WWE would you believe me? Yet Golf DOES have more viewers and has better ratings.

Tennis has better ratings than the WWE/UFC as well.
