  • Alex Smith to KC??

I thought I had heard this on the radio anyone heard conformation of it? If he does go to KC does that immediately make them the second best team in the AFC West? Particularly since they are picking number 1 overall this year.

    Here's a link to a story on it. http://www.sacbee.com/2013/02/26/521...-smith-to.html

So yeah this has now been confirmed by ESPN.

The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to trade quarterback Alex Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs, league sources confirmed to ESPN.

Alex Smith is not the answer to KC's problem, he has rarely put up anything other than mediocre numbers. The San Francisco defense really made the 49ers relevant.

That being said, as a Broncos fan, i do hope they trade for Alex Smith. He will be an upgrade over Quinn and Cassel, but he is hardly a player that scares D Coordinators. Trading for Smith will get the Chiefs a few more wins a season but will not lead them back to the playoffs IMO.
He's still Tim Tebow... and you're NOT!
But Peyton Manning will win a Super Bowl.

Who knows, Andy Reid is a QB guru. I think he could make him an above average game manager, which is what KC needs right now. They need to improve their defense and limit mistakes on offense. They have some good pieces in place specially if they retain both Albert and Bowe, they could switch Albert to RT and draft Joeckel or Fisher at LT, that gives them a Top-15 O-line and decent receiving corps for Alex Smith.

Not saying they will instantly make the playoffs but they can certainly give us a run for our money in divisional matchups

Andy Reid is an offensive minded guy that will install the west coast offense which is good becuz it will make Alex Smith look just enough to remain the starter, kind of reminisent of Kyle Orton in Denver. He will start and remain in KC for a long time which will ultimately work out in Denvers favor!

feel sorry for Kansas city fans though.:thumb:

        NOT... BWAAHAHAHAHAHA

Smith is a huge improvement over cassel, but man they gave up a lot to get him. Also at the present time Harbaugh is considered the best QB guru in the league. Reid has really struggled with Mcnabb, Vick, Kolb, and Foles (although it is too soon to judge him). So I wouldn't expect him to improve much under Reid. San Francisco also had much better weapons in the receiving game and a better o-line than KC does.

It's an improvement for sure...maybe bumps you up to 6 or 7 wins, but giving up a 2nd round pick and change is way too much, and now you have committed to him as more than a stop gap. Risky move IMO.

I was surprised to see that they gave more than the second rounder. I expected their second round this year with the possibility of a later round pick as well (6th or 7th) but from what I saw its a conditional mid round pick so somewhere between 3rd and 5th which is a lot. By the same token though I still feel Smith is better than Palmer and they gave up significantly less than the Raiders did in that deal.

From one underwhelming QB to another. Thanks KC, you've done us a huge favor. Alex Smith will never scare anybody, he may make our trip to KC once a year less than memorable, but then again, thats kind of par for the course. Im really not worried about it at all.

I think Alex Smith is a good fit in KC. He's accurate and mobile....a perfect fit for the WCO.

Meh, he's an upgrade but to trade a late 1st basically for him is too much. And a conditional pick next year. Smith isn't bad but i would of just took the risk on one of the QB's in this draft. Or use that pick somewhere else.

I could of maybe understood a 3rd and 5th, but that's too much.

                      This.....

He will probably do well under Reid.

I can't believe how much they paid for A Smith! They gave away a top 2nd round pick plus a future middle pick! A Smith isnt that great.

He(Smith)ran it before and looked horrible in it..then agian Andy Reid has tweaked it to fit a QB who was way better out of the shotgun formation before. McNabb. This could be the perfect fit.

KC has a decent defense with a few pieces missing. Adding Smith will certainly not hurt them as he is better than what they have had in the past. They will win a few more games for sure.

Alex Smith is nothing but a mobile Kyle Orton.

In other words he's a mobile BUM!

Replacing one BUM (Cassel) with another BUM (Smith) still equals = BUM!

Now watch some team replace their current BUM QB with Cassel thinking he's going to be an upgrade!!!

Bad is bad...some are just bad-er than others but none of them are GOOD!
