Its hard to say how this works out. KC can potentially be a team that doesn't need a great QB to win, but will they be is the question? Something about that KC offense though is just disasterous. Cassell looked ok before going to KC, so did Quinn..they weren't great, but nowhere near as bad as they have looked in KC. They have had a few good receivers playing for them even, Bowe has been there since this all started in 2007, Chambers was there for a little while I believe, as was Gonzo and Lloyd.
That team does have potential, as bad as they looked. First thing, they need their defense to play like the one that held the '11 packers to 14 points, don't know what happened this year. Secondly, stop turning it over, that was their main killer. That alone gets them to around .500 again. To be a playoff team, well we'll see if Reid can turn around that disaster of an offense. He is a pretty good offensive mind, AJ Feeley looked pretty good under him so you don't have to be like Brees or Rodgers to have success. They have Bowe that's good, and a pretty good running game. I'd say if they get another receiver they could surprise people. Go after one in FA or the draft.

This is a bad year to need a QB, so in that regard KC just got the best one on the market.
To those who say Smith is just a game manager......not so the last two years under Harbaugh. People forget he was having the best year of his career in 2012 before he was injured.
Smith is a very good football player..........It was just his bad luck to get injured and replaced by a better one.

It's as if they don't understand the concept of some teams having a higher competition level at a position than others.
I dont agree with you and bears6385 about Alex Smith at all. Most of Smith's career stats suck and he was labeled as a 1st-round draft bust, until Harbaugh showed up. Smith flourished in Harbaugh's system as did most of the 49ers. Take Alex Smith out of Harbaugh's system and Alex Smith is a backup level QB at best. Thats what his stats show. All the Chiefs have in Smith is another Matt Cassel. Cassel was great that year Brady went down, but once Matt left the Patriot system, he wasnt much good. With the Chiefs lousy O-line, Alex will struggle and he has never been good outside the Harbaugh system. That explains why Chief fans are not so happy with Alex coming to be their QB. Smith is not very mobile and will get sacked a lot, force passes and pile up INTs. Alex Smith is nothing but a bandaid on the gaping Chiefs' QB wound. Perhaps Reid will only use Smith until a better QB becomes available in the future drafts or FA. Alex Smith is not the franchise QB for KC and is only a temporary solution, which may not improve the Chief's offense much. The Chiefs havent found their good, long-term QB yet.Last edited by mct1967; 03-08-2013, 11:27 AM.
