Sanchez should be the Chargers target. If/when he gets cut he could be had for a bargain. This would allow them to rid themselves of this absurd notion that Rivers just needs a couple pieces. That team needs to focus on the future not the possibility of winning 18 games over the remainder of Rivers 3 year 50 million dollar contract.
If Sanchez plays well back in his home state, then great...bonus for SD. If he stinks, then so what? Rivers stinks too. But Rivers 50 mill could go a long ways towards a quicker rebuild and the next 2 drafts and FA periods could be focused on line and skill.
The Chargers are so content with mediocrity its laughable.

If the Chargers took Sanchez they'd be saying that they're content with crap.

By the way they treat free agency and the draft they have already made that known. They let their good players walk, then they replace the position that just left with another guy, never improving. Look at this year, they let a good olineman walk and a good lb...only to draft a lineman and a lb. they didnt improve their mediocre team, they tried their best to stay mediocre. Had they kept Vasquez and Phillips and drafted Fluker and a decent skill position (like rb or even QB of the future) they would be in better shape.
Ridding themselves of Rivers terrible contract would allow them some cap room to actually (gasp) improve their roster for the near future. They are going nowhere with Rivers and his 50 mill due and they can get to that same place (nowhere) with Sanchez for a fraction of that.

I would take Rivers over Sanchez any day. Sanchez had ha.s every chance to prove he's a starting qb and he's failed miserably

Of course....everyone would 100 out of 100. Thats not the point LOL

The fact is the Chargers are lacking in the talent department, and they have no money to spend on quality FA or to keep their own guys. They are stuck in a rut where there is no real direction. Rivers bloated contract only adds to the problem for the next 3 years. It doesnt matter who the QB is (tom Brady, Rivers, Sanchez, etc) they have no real shot at anything. Their chances in future can drastically change if they can start drafting talent as opposed to need. They need to reload the talent especially on the line and in the skill positions. But they cant....they keep losing guys and replacing them in an endless cycle. Just like losing Vasquez and Phillips and replacing them with Fluker and Teo didnt do anything to help.
Rivers bloated contract only compounds this cycle for the next three years.
Its not a issue about whos better Rivers or Sanchez. Its about whats better 50 mill and going nowhere or less than 10 mill and going nowhere but having money to add players via FA. The draft is where you acquire your talent, but they cant do that they are stuck replacing the guys that walk.
