  • I do believe the Chargers' D-line is the best in the AFC West

The Chargers may not be the best team in the AFC West but I do think their D-line is the best in the AFC West.

With Corey Liuget, Kendall Reyes, Dwight Freeney and Jarius Wynn at DE

With Cam Thomas, Kwame Geathers, and now Drake Nevis at DT

I think they have the best DL rotation in the AFC West with bodies good enough to play the run or the pass, IMO.

their entire front 7 is good especially if te'o pans out as a solid starter. the weak link is NT and depth at most positions. if any of those guys gets hurt there is a pretty big drop off in talent after that.

I'll reserve my judgement on who has the best unit until week 8 or so. I also think its a very subjective category. Front 7's can be good due to a solid run D or a solid pass rush or in some cases both. A front 7 can also be boosted by having an elite secondary that allows for more time in the pass rush as well. I think the Broncos D-Line will improve this season and we have a solid LB core once Von returns. KC has a pretty solid front 7 as well with Tamba Hali, Derrick Johnson, and Justin Houston.

Shaun Phillips had 9.5 sacks last year and Freeney had five but freeney is better? Wolfe had six sacks? Knighton and Vickerson are two 330 lb tree trunks.
And the thread states best fron seven in the AFC West not the first six weeks in the AFC West. Once Denver gets Miller and Bradley back at lb I would take Denvers front seven that was part of a 4th ranked defense in the nfl last year.

Only problem is the past 7 years of production doesnt back your theory......sure years and years ago Freeney was a better pass rusher but as of right now, they are fairly equal and Phillips can help out in other areas. Freeney is a one trick pony and if the spin move isnt working, then hes rendered useless.

I guess you forgot that Phillips doesn't play for SD, since he's been a better pass rusher for the last two years than Freeney, and it's not even close.

You do realize that's because Freeney had an absolute joke of a DC in Greg Manusky right? AFC West fans should know first hand how awful he is considering that his lone season in SD, he turned a talented bunch of defensive players into useless ones.

                    Plus Freeney had injuries.

John Pagano is one of the best defensive coordinators in the NFL. He knows how to use players to utilize their strengths. Expect him to do the same with Dwight Freeney who is finally 100% healthy now.

Charger fans know very well that almost every sack Shaun Phillips had last season came in garbage time or were coverage sacks. He's done and washed up that's why the Chargers let him walk.

Melvin Ingram (when healthy)>>> Shaun Phillips

                    Dwight Freeney >>> Shaun Phillips

I have to agree with you but I do think Phillips will have a few sacks this year (against inferior teams that is)

Speak for yourself, I'll tale Derek Wolfe, and your SERIOUSLY under-rating Malik Jackson and Mitch Unrein, who are about to explode onto the scene...and that's not including Sly

By seasons end, the Broncos D-line will be clearly better
