Except historically we do have one of the best homefield advantages in the NFL (5th all time), and SD not so much. We have the easiest schedule in football left, and NE has 2 very lose-able games. Besides homefield advantage in the playoffs is overrated its rare for the 1st seed to make the SB let alone win it.

There is no HFA in the Super Bowl, it only effects who makes it. It does however, have more impact than you think. Up until 2008, there was a very long streak of at least one 1 seed making the Super Bowl. Lately, the recent increase in wild card SB winners has made HFA seem less important, but it still plays a pretty big role, and there's always at least 1 team that had a first round bye in the SB.

It largely depends on the team, some teams don't have a strong HFA and if they get the #1 seed, it won't be a factor. That or if a team is prone to playoff chokes they'll often lose even if they are a team with a strong HFA.

However, it has been big for several teams. The Vikings of 2009 I'm sure would have loved HFA, being a much better home team they probably get to the SB and have a strong chance of a win if they have the 1 seed.

The Saints of 2011 basically lost a SB berth because of a conference record tiebreaker, losing in SFO. Had it been in NO and they had the 2 seed, they probably win and then beat the Giants at home the next week. The Ravens that year as well, probably go to the SB if they have HFA, which they were close to.

Having HFA would have likely been very good for those teams, as a few examples, it matters for certain teams. The Saints and Seahawks aren't guaranteed wins at home, but they have a much stronger chance of a home win, and I doubt many teams want to go visit their stadiums in the POs. Contenders all across the NFC are pulling very hard for the Panthers today.

beating the broncos for me is always euphoric

had that been in the first couple weeks of the season that would be a different story. but do continue to cry and whine about it, as i said.

by the way, that bye is a double edge sword. yeah you get past the WC round but that is a momentum killer for a lot of teams and the team you will face will inevitably have a lot of momentum going into that game.

and that was two games in a row we dominated TOP and brought your offense back to earth. enough is not said about the fact that our coach knows everything about your tendencies.
