Is that why when Manning missed the year, they won 2 freaking games, yet NE won 11 games when Brady was out.

Brady has always had the superior team, coach, roster, FO for most of their careers and its not even close.

Better OL's by far, better running game, superior defenses, better coach other than weapons which isnt a huge gap the last few years.

So barely better weapons equals better teams, ROFL.

More excuses for Brady, what else is new?

As a semi- expert (if I do say so myself..!) of the Manning-led Colts, I would like to clarify something that often confuses the casual Manning/Colts fans regarding the topic of how Indy fell apart in 2011 when Peyton sat out the season. The Colts were headed on a rapid, down-hill sleigh ride by that season, after 2 uears of Coma Caldwell's leadership and were destined to finish out of the money that season, with or without Manning. Some astute NFL observers have even quietly suggested that Manning's decision to sit that one out was linked to his knowledge that the team was not going to fare very well anyways!

So, this myth that the Colts fell apart because of Peyton's absence is not really sustainable if you know all the facts, or do the research.

Well Thats a cute theory, and it remains as one unless you can have some form of proof of it.

"quietly some experts" doesn't cut it.

HOF QB went down + bad defence + lousy backup QB = team goes down. Pretty simple.

Yeah they had the worst back ups in the league and a lot of injuries on defense. Two starting LBs go down, a starting corner, and starting strong safety as well as his back up. I still think the Colts tanked the season purposely for Luck.

          • Burden of proof is on the person making the claim. So I'm guessing since you can't provide the information you can't prove your claims.

I have no "burden" to "prove" anything! If you don't agree with my comment and are comfortable with being wrong, then I say "Fine". Otherwise, go check it out on Colts' boards or NFL sites and figure it out for yourself.

I certainly don't intend to rummage thru three year-old facts to support my comments for the sake of appeasing a bunch of nay-sayers. That would be monumental waste of time. But if you're interested in trying to proving me wrong

Yep and Denver went from 8-8 to 13-3 by luck had nothing to do with manning right?

He played a big role, but it isn't as if Denver did nothing but sign Manning and went to 13-3. They improved their defense a lot as well.

                        • Denver was a very talented team even without Manning, they just needed a Qb to put it all together. Similar to Alex Smith and KC.

                            DE: Mark Anderson (very pedestrian)
DT: Kyle Love (Guy can't start for the Jaguars! Hasn't started since leaving NE)
                            DT: Vince Wilfork (All-pro)
DE: Shaun Ellis (Washed up recored 1 sack in 7 starts. Retired after that season)
                            LB: Mayo (Pro Bowl)
LB: Spikes (2 down player who was beat in coverage a lot. Fan favorite but very overrated)
LB: Ninkovich (Second yr as a starter. Came over as a long snapper. Better fit at 43 DE)
CB: Kyle Arrington (Worst starting CB in the league, can't play on outside needs to cover slot. He was beat out by a rookie and will probably be last CB on depth chart this year)
CB: Antwaun Molden/Sterling Moore (Molden hasn't made a team since being on the pats and Moore was a practice squad player after the pats on the cowboys got cut and was brought back as the 4th corner on the worst pass defense team in the league. Couldn't even start in the worst secondary!)
S: McCourty (8th game playing safety. turned into a beast tho)
S: Ihedigbo (1st year starting safety played special teams on the Jets. Below Average to Poor)

Easily worst defense that has made the SB. Julian Edelman was the 3rd corner for crying out load. Beyond Wilfork, Mayo, and McCourty there was no one on that defense. Andre Carter was good for us but he got tore his quad late in the regular season.
It seems like you don't get the concept of 'whole is better than the sum of the parts'. In fact, your team shows this better than any. List out the players on the no name Dolphins defense of 72, doesn't look amazing. However, they were #1 in the league. Sometimes, defenses work well together in a good scheme and make a better team. Your defense was not very good that year, but you were 15th in scoring defense. You were not the worst defense of all time.

It does not matter if a defense plays how they do because of the scheme, or the players. In the end, if they hold teams down then they hold them down, it doesn't somehow make it harder on the offense just because it's the scheme causing the defense to play well.

You gave up 10 to DEN, 20 to BAL and 21 to NYG in the playoffs. That isn't awful, and the road to the SB your defense played pretty well scoring wise.

                              2011 starters/ 2012 defensive starters
                              FS -Q. Carter / R Moore
                              SS - B Dawkins/M Adams
                              CB - A Goodman/C Harris
                              CB - C Bailey - Same
                              MLB - J Mays - Brooking
                              WLB - Woodyard - same
                              SLB - V Miller-same
                              RE - Dumervil-same
                              DT - M Thomas-Banaan
                              DT - B Bunkley/Vickerson
                              LE -R.Ayers/D Wolfe
Where are these huge upgrades on defense? Chris Harris was an undrafted free agent who was solid but we lost our best run stuffer in Bunkley, are defensive leader in Dawkins retired and we had to start an old mlb in brooking by default.
im sure your right though Denver has gone 13-3 back to back seasons and the Superbowl because of our defensive upgrades.

Oh yeah we saw Denvers elite talent in the Superbowl. I saw Manning stopped and nobody else stepped up. Oline dominated, receivers besides DT shutdown, no run game to speak of. Defense couldn't make a play, special teams gave up return. This team lived and died with Manning last year. San Diego, Indy, and new England all games Manning struggled and Denver lost.
