But it is one, a leader of a team doesn't act this way. Especially when winning. You wont see it from Manning, Brady, Brees, Rodgers, Luck, etc.

You can come up with any defense for the guy that you want if it makes you feel better. But the dude is cocky and arrogant. His only upside to that is he is professional enough to just keep it on the field and keep his yap shut off the field.
actually we just seen it from manning earlier this season, when he got in some other players face.

i also fail to see how trash talking on the field is arrogance? something he doesn't do that often, in fact he hasn't done it really at all lately that i can think of. you don't know what is even said, ive heard people give examples of the trash he talks and it's not even that bad.

i'm not trying to defend rivers, i'm just saying he gets a bad rap and you are an excellent example of that. you act like he is just being professional in the media and he is actually this arrogant cocky dude and that is hilarious.

if you said that to anyone that covers the chargers, to any of his teammates.....they would laugh in your face for even suggesting that.

    just sayin.....

He says all the right things in press conferences, just like most other qbs in the league. You're comparing Manning's behavior to Rivers? Really? I would respect the statement if you said you didn't care but Rivers on field behavior is among the most petulant in the league. Yep, right there with Cutler.

Re: Cutler, a lot of us won't defend his behavior because he's a complete jerk. The difference between he and Rivers, is that, at least, Rivers wins. I give him credit for playing well, the majority of his career.

My dislike for Rivers, in addition to those already stated, comes from a former SD linebacker, Sean Phillips. Btw, he told this story while he was still playing for SD. In college, in a post play pileup, someone was twisting his ankle (think Vontaze Burfict) and it was your buddy Rivers. Maybe he's grown up since then, I hope he has. But, that's dirty.

I'll finish with a question too: Who cares if he's the most hated qb on a Bronco smack forum? Actually, name one other qb that's routinely hated on in the Bronco smack forum? Not many options, right? So, as a fan base, we singled out poor little Phillip for no reason aside from his record against Denver? Even in the case of Brady, Denver fans give him more even handed comments. Maybe Rivers is just more of a jerk and you refuse to acknowledge it because he's your team's qb. If he played for a different team, I imagine your opinion would be significantly different.
read my post above and i would love to see the link to the story you claimed Philips told because i simply don't buy it. the fact that you think the only difference between him and cutler is rivers wins?

yeah, i can say with full confidence you have absolutely no clue what you are talking about.

      haters gonna hate i guess.

How is trash talking, anywhere, NOT arrogance? That doesn't even make sense.
And all you're doing is defending Rivers, how can you claim that you're not? That doesn't make sense, either.

Simply because I disagree doesn't mean I "have absolutely no clue what I'm talking about." You've provided zero defense for your position aside from your opinion/s.

        My opinion is different.
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/9...play-runs-deep ((this supports my claim that Rivers runs his mouth and includes the story about Merriman (I thought it was Phillips).))

http://forums.chargers.com/showthread.php?t=32981 (this is from the SD forum)

The story is true, I don't care if you believe it. You're an excuse maker for Rivers, which is unnecessary. Rather than pretend he's a saint (you don't know the dude any more than any of us know any of the players), just admit you like having an arrogant, cocky qb. Nothing wrong with that, if that's your thing. They're all that way, to some extent, I'm just saying Rivers is worse than most. I'm not sure why you're so compelled to defend every single thing that Rivers does.

btw: "haters gonna hate i guess" is just a weak statement when you've got nothing of substance to say.

well lets see, when you say there is no difference between him and cuter other than the fact that rivers wins? that isn't me disagreeing with you, you are flat out wrong

cutler actually is arrogant, example i gave is he said he had a better arm than elway. cuter bad mouthed rivers to the media and rivers responded with nothing but nice things to say about cutler.

cutler cursing at mike marts during a game.........rivers wouldn't dream of doing any of that garbage on or off the field. having fun on the field and trash talking does not = arrogance, that is just flat out wrong as well.

: an insulting way of thinking or behaving that comes from believing that you are better, smarter, or more important than other people
sorry but i have not once ever seen or heard of rivers behaving in a manner that would fit that description or anything similar. he says things like "atta baby" when cutler was throwing his tantrum or another example i heard of is he said "roll tide" to a corner he just burnt for a TD (that obviously went to Alabama)

and yes, rivers got in merrimans face when they were college rivals, he did it to warren sapp in he NFL too. does that make him arrogant? or maybe just maybe he doesn't back down?

but honestly, i don't really care. you can think he is no different than cutler but like i said, if you made that claim to anyone that knows him they would straight up laugh in your face.....including merriman.

Why, then, does Rivers talk so much noise during a game? It's because he is "believing that you are better, smarter, or more important than other people." There is no other reason to mouth off like that, even on the playing field. You can make up a motive but my belief that he exactly fits your Websters definition is far more reasonable.

Re: Merriman, nice way to completely avoid the point. The Point: He tried to twist Merriman's ankle in a pileup! That's a punk move, period. But, you ignore the actual point, that you claimed didn't exist, and simply try to pretend he did something admirable. That's pathetic. At least be honest.

You're basing your whole opinion regarding PR on Cutler as a reference point? I've acknowledged Jay as a jackass. That's hardly a difficult measuring stick. You have no way of knowing what "anyone who know him" would say? You act like you're boys and hang out. You don't know Phillip Rivers. Nor do you know anyone who knows Phillip Rivers. Stop making declarations as though you do. Simply because I said something pretty innocuous about Rivers, directed at someone besides yourself, you are simply making stuff up without any supporting data. Hyper-defensive much?

            • Philip Rivers is a great football player, and a goofy guy from North Alabama. He is animated and demonstrative which is just his style. His performance during the Thursday Night Game at Denver this season was classic Rivers goofiness. We like to tease him.
