  • Gronk Cruise

This one should be fun, let's see where it goes...

If it's any other player in the league (Cam Newton for instance) how much scrutiny is there for them offering $10K for any people willing to "enjoy each other's company" right there in front of everyone?

Well it's 100% guaranteed that one group had a great time on that cruise, that group is of course STD's.

This was discussed on First Take today. They said the media has a double standard, specifically about race and that the media would make more of a big deal about this if it were Cam Newton instead of Gronk hosting this party cruise.

The argument that Gronkowski supporters will make is this: He’s the best tight end in the league, he’s coming off another good season, his parties don’t hurt anyone and he’s never seemed to be anything but focused come football time. He’s clearly carved out his niche as the party king of the NFL.

The argument Prince Amukamara, a longtime Giants cornerback, and Charles James, a Texans cornerback, are making though: It is highly unlikely that public opinion would ever be OK with Cam Newton, who was considered too much of a showboat and immoral for not marrying the mother of his child, to show off with an extended party like this. Same with Odell Beckham Jr., who was criticized for his celebrations as well. Like Gronkowski, they’re showboating — but perhaps just on dry land and without any booze or party games.

Newton gets ripped for "dabbing" and celebrating a touchdown by doing the Superman thing, no one says a word about Gronkowski doing his big spike and then mugging for the camera. If Cam Newton were ever to stand in front of a crowd and offer any 2 people $10K to play naked leap frog in front of everyone, the media would go nuts.

I heard that arguement and it was reputed with it being more positional that racial. gronk is a meathead TE in the trenches kinda guy.... So this behaviour follows.

Insert any qb,s name next to payed a guy 10G to do naked leapfrog and you will see the reaction would be negative.

And gronk, of any other player really embraces his personality. He partied after the Super Bowl loss, put his jersey on a porn star and was widley criticized for it but keeps doing his thing...king a hard to jump on him for a life of that pattern behaviour.

That's my take on it. The 1st incident (his post SB loss partying) was a major media firestorm...now, anything he does gets the eyeroll and "it's just gronk so no big deal"

Actually some of the media have been making fun of it for days. Its gotten to a point on the Dan LeBatard show, to where they are allowing people on twitter to make up nicknames for the boat....needless to say names are funny.

Gronk is a meat head. He has never had one issue off the field young or old (legally speaking). That is why Gronk gets a "pass".

He gets a pass because this is who he has been since his name became relevant. Cam got bashed because he was arrogant and dancing around like he own'd the place. Then he lost in went backed to how he act before the winning. Basically making him out to be fake. Gronk does stuff like this win, lose, draw, or injured.

it's because gronk isn't a QB, plain and simple.

it is a double standard for sure.

same with brady yet people bash him here for his antics on the field as well, stuff he has always done. its like QB's are held to a higher standard (to a degree they should be) but the hate they get for having fun during games is crap IMO

why can every other positional player act a fool but as soon as a QB does it, it's a big problem?

Any other team with any other fan base, this shouldn't be a story. I feel we all know this is just some harmless fun. But the pats fans have threads on these forums condemning manning of a mooning, stupid and perceived harmless fun at the time (by manning, a college QB who was young and a fool). Any other team I think this is overblown. But if we have Peyton ostracized for a mooning I'd say Gronk doesn't get to pay to see sex without some issues.

Gronk is meathead that loves to party that is who he is. I don't know this for fact, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he is alcoholic he always at night clubs and he looks drunk.

I can agree that people act a certain way depending on the QB or player in general. Me personally I can understand why Brady and Rivers act how they act. I've bashed them for how they handle themselves on the field. Sports is filled with emotion, their reaction is emotion. Cam's reaction was fake, it was fueled by arrogance and winning.

As for why QBs are treated different, its because they are considered the leader of the team, the spokesman for the team, and team ambassador.

Possibly because the NFL is one of the most richest and powerful businesses in the world and the QB's are the most recognizable faces of the corporation
