Social Media Equity focuses on fan willingness to engage as part of a team’s community (support exhibited by joining social media communities)
I don't know about this one. It eliminates the crowd that is not engaged in social media. For me, I'm the biggest die hard Raider fan you'll find, but I don't have my own Facebook or Twitter account. But I do buy merchandise and I go to Raider games here in NY and throughout the eastern part of the country if I can make it. So by that standard, I, a die hard, bring the average down because I don't engage in social media.

While I think social media should be part of the equation, I think it should count with lesser points than the fan attendance and merchandise sales.

Oh and about Giants fans, they have a superiority complex sharing the city with the woeful Jets. It's also what makes us Yankees fans jerks as we love our little brother Mets fans.

Something I thought would never, ever happen! I agree with you!

After spending most of my life in the SF bay area and going to several Raider games in the late 70's/early 80's and the highlight of my Bronco fan life, sitting 40 rows up from the goal line seeing the Broncos beat the 49ers at Candlestick Park on 10/9/88 on a Rich Karlis OT field goal...here are 2 things seriously wrong with the list and why.

              1) The Raider fanbase should be ranked much, much higher. I have friends and in-laws who were fans in the 70's and stuck with them through the great times and the long lousy stretch between the Buc's SB loss and Derek Carr's emergence. Also, notice how during those sucking years the black hole was still crazy and the stadium full? Showing up week after week knowing your team has an almost zero chance of winning get's my respect. When they announced the move to Vegas, I asked my brother-in-law if he was going to switch to a different team. He said, no, he'd just fly to Vegas once a year to take in a game. That's loyalty.

              2) The 49er fanbase should be ranked much, much lower. In the years between those 2 early 70's trips to the NFC championship game and Bill Walsh's 1981 breakout year and win over the Bengals in the SB, you couldn't find anyone wearing a 9er jersey or talking about them as "their team". Shoot, in the late 70's it was common to see attendance of around 10,000 at Candlestick with many more empty seats than full ones. My local paper (San Jose Mercury News) was all about the Raiders and barely gave the 9ers more than a short column here or there. Then they win the SB in '81 and you can't go a day without running across some loudmouth obnoxiously proclaiming he's been a "49er faithful" all his life. Really? Where you between '75 and '80? 9er fans are the poorest winners and the worst losers of any fan base I ever encountered.

The glorious day I saw the Broncos beat the 9ers in 1988, I was one of the few Bronco fans wearing orange (I had on my Elway jersey covered with my orange Bronco hoodie) in the whole stadium and the only Bronco fan in my entire section. The only other guy nearby rooting for the Broncos was a couple rows in front of me with a Dolphins cap on. So, here's what happened that day. Our offense had been struggling with Elway not throwing a TD in the past 2 or 3 games. The game stayed close with the 9ers edging ahead to a 13 - 6 4th quarter lead. Finally, mid Q4 we put a drive together and right in the endzone in front of me, Elway hit The Vance for the tying TD. Late Q4 we get to the 9er 20 and with time running out, Rich Karlis misses an easy FG and the fans are going insane (they were still pissed about our Monday Night Football win in Denver back in '85...remember "the snowball game" :-) The 9ers win the toss and Steve Young (who'd been switching in and out at QB with montana all day) promptly throws an INT to Mark Haynes inside the 9er 10. Most of the 9er fans get up and start walking out before the Broncos even came on the field. The guy with the Dolphins cap gets up and starts yelling over and over, "Hey 49er faithful, where you going, the games not over yet"...that was a perfect criticism of 9er fans. We get on the field and Karlis kicks the game winner, though there was a flag on the play. Luckily it was against Ronnie Lott for jumping offsides

From that 1981 SB win all the way to when I got the heck out of CA 7 years ago, 9er fans were the worst. The most obnoxious thing they used to say (especially during the 80's) was when they'd lose and say, "the other team didn't beat us, we beat ourselves"
