you don't actually believe he just decided to take a different position, do you? If that were anyone else besides Elway, they would have been canned. also, who was going to fire him at that point before the new ownership anyways?

However....it wasn't Manning who got the Broncos their 3rd Lombardi. The defense and talent around Manning, that Elway assembled as GM....was mostly responsible for the 3rd Lombardi.

then why couldn't the broncos even make the playoffs the following year with virtually the same defense? I was told by many broncos fans here at that time that the broncos could plug in any QB and it wouldn't matter because of the defense and the pieces that were around manning.

manning, even as a shell of his former self, still had his mind and still was a great leader. The fact is the years without manning the broncos have been trash for a long time. you have to go back to the jake the trouser snake years and that was because you still had shanarat.

Let me be clear, Elway deserves some credit for the success but once manning retired, he tanked hard and failed as a GM.

Elway resigned as GM....for his own personal reasons. Whether it was because he thought he was doing a bad job, was getting older and didn't want to do it anymore, more time with family.....I don't know. He was not clear why he resigned....then he took the other position.

I don't know what happened in 2016....the first half of the season the Broncos and D played great and were in first place. Then they collapsed in the 2nd half of the season and missed the playoffs. Maybe they got over-confident or knew Gary was going to resign? I don't know.

2017-2022 Broncos' bad seasons are not all Elway's fault.....he does deserve some of the blame, but the inconsistency at QB and head coach hurt the team as well. Elway didn't have much to choose from with Head-coaching candidates. He did blow it, by not hiring Kyle Shanahan....but I believe Kyle wanted more input with player-personel decisions and that was going to interfere with Elway's job, so Kyle didn't get an offer. Or there were personal reasons for not hiring Kyle...not sure why that offer didn't happen. It mighta been Ellis....(the acting-owner at the time)....he's never liked the Shanahans. Ellis was responsible for Mike being fired in 2008....and was against Mike coming back in 2018. Ellis may have put the kibosh on Kyle being hired....who knows.

But not all GMs are going to have great, winning seasons all the time. I never said Elway was an ALL-TIME great GM.....But he did assemble the 2013-2015 teams that won a Lamar Hunt trophy and won a Super Bowl. When you ripped Elway's looks, I pointed out his accomplishments.....he has a Lombardi as a GM. Elway assembled a great defense and team that won a SB in 2015. That is a fact. I made no statements about what Elway did afterward.

do you also recall the various calls for his firing during that same time period? wouldn't it also make sense that rather than fire him, they allowed him to take a "consulting" position to save face? How could the broncos fire Elway? the all time most revered member of the broncos organization.

What you said is possible and what I said is possible....regarding Elway leaving the GM position. Its all speculation....maybe the truth will never be known.

Yeah, Brandon Staley and his defense looked as bad as I have seen it yet and that is saying a lot! I was optimistic the defense would at least be improved to an average type of defense. Doesnt look like that will be the case.

your entire defense was healthy, both Mack and Bosa healthy and in the entire game with absolutely zero impact against a backup tackle ive never heard of and that scrub Austin Jackson. just bonehead play after bonehead play. so much talent on that defense yet still terrible.

This isn't even chargering, this is just bad football on the defensive side of the ball.

on to the next one I suppose......

We got gashed on defense. Swiss cheese out there all day. I figured it would be tough but to get throttled like that it’s unbelievable!

what an embarrassment. I hope our defense gets fixed and fast.
