    McFadden, Tebow among Heisman finalists

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Arkansas running back Darren McFadden, Florida sophomore quarterback Tim Tebow, Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel and Hawaii signal-caller Colt Brennan have been named finalists for the 2007 Heisman Trophy, which will be presented to the nation's top collegiate player by the Downtown Athletic Club on Saturday in New York.

McFadden, last year's Heisman runner-up to Troy Smith, has run for 1,725 yards with 15 touchdowns in 12 games. He set an SEC record with 321 rushing yards in a November 3 game against South Carolina and has averaged 143.8 yards per game -- fourth-best in the nation.

In addition, the junior has 21 receptions for 164 yards with another score, and has also thrown four touchdown passes this season. He is also a finalist this year for the Maxwell Award as the nation's top player and the Doak Walker Award as the nation's top running back, an honor he won last year as a sophomore.

No Arkansas player has ever won the Heisman. McFadden was the first Razorback to be named a finalist last year.

Tebow became the first player in Football Bowl Subdivision history, formerly Division I-A, to throw at least 20 touchdown passes and run for at least 20 scores in the same season. He has thrown for 3,132 yards with 29 touchdowns and just six interceptions, while rushing for 838 yards with 22 scores.

As was the case with McFadden, Tebow's signature game came against South Carolina as he ran for 120 yards with five touchdowns and threw for 304 yards with two more scores on November 10. His 22 rushing touchdowns are tied for third in the country and his passer rating of 177.9 is second-best.

If Tebow wins, he would become the first sophomore to capture the Heisman and the third Gator to win the award, joining quarterbacks Danny Wuerffel in 1996 and Steve Spurrier in 1966.

Daniel has thrown for 4,170 yards, third-most in the country, with 33 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 13 games this season. He is fourth in the nation in total offense, averaging 342.6 yards per game, and has also rushed for four touchdowns.

Twice this season, the junior threw for more than 400 yards and twice he tossed five touchdown passes. He really made a name for himself against Kansas on November 24, completing 40-of-49 passes for 361 yards with three scores, but struggled the following week against Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game with just 219 yards passing and no touchdowns.

A Missouri player has never won the Heisman.

Brennan has completed 71.4 percent of his passes for 4,174 yards, second-most in the nation, with 38 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 11 games. His passer rating of 166.3 is third-best in the country and his 38 TD tosses rank third. He is also second in total offense, averaging 385.4 yards per game.

The senior led Hawaii to its first undefeated season, completing it December 1 against Washington with a banner game in which he completed 42-of-50 passes for 442 yards with touchdowns. The Warriors will play in a BCS bowl game for the first time, taking on Georgia in the Sugar Bowl on New Year's night.

After the way June Jones, dissed Tim Tebow on ESPN, I will be disgusted if Colt wins it. That was pretty classless of Jones to put down another player to hype up his own. I haven't heard any of the other three coaches doing that.

Having said that, I think Tebow should win it. McFadden wouldn't be a bad choice but I think he has been too inconsistent. Daniel blew his chance against Oklahoma, and I've already stated why I'm rooting against Colt.

Yet you have everyone else dissing Brennan because he plays an easy schedule.

        Stats are stats, no?

Sure, I've heard plenty of people say that but I haven't heard any of the other three head coaches dissing him.

i been on mcfadden's bandwagon all through his college career

but if tebow doesn't win this thing, the heisman's a sham

tebow has the best stats of any of them

and if anyone thinks colts all around stats are better than tebow's they're an idiot (no offense)

I would be happy if Colt didn't win the Heisman. That award has more bad luck associated with it than a statue of Ku(the Hawaiian God of War) for an NFL quarterback entering the draft. For everyone that says Brennan isn't worthy of the Heisman, I say you could be more wrong. He's dealt with injury, a small and inexperienced O-line and the fact that many have been critical of his performance and ability. He does deserve a shot at the Heisman, but like I said, I hope he doesn't win. BTW, those of you that put faith in what June Jones says, be aware that he's done this before, with Timmy (Chang), who in no way deserved Heisman recognition.

                McFadden = Best Pro

give it to him...I'm sick of Heisman winners that don't do crap in the NFL. Tebow and Brennan will not sniff NFL starting jobs. Hence are they really the best in college?

                Ron Dayne
                Danny Wuerffel
                Troy Smith
                Jason White (worst of all)
                Eric Crouch
                Chris Weinke

...thats just to name a few.
