Does this make me a bandwagon fan?

I was told by a fellow poster (whose name I won't mention) that because I have a Gator logo in my avatar (for good luck getting into the university) and I cheered for Tebow to win the heisman makes me a bandwagon jumper. I wasn't aware that applying to a school other than the one I cheer for in football (because Mississippi State doesn't have my major and Florida does), putting their logo in my avatar for good luck, and liking one of their players suddenly means that I've jumped from Mississippi State's bandwagon to Florida's. Am I wrong here?

And the only reason I'm posting this is because he refuses to answer my PM's so I want to hear someone's opinion on the matter.

People throw that word around alllll the time. Its pretty stupid. I root for every team that plays against the Patriots... does that make me a 'bandwagon' fan of every team that plays against them?

I root for every AFC team during the SB (I won't this year if the Patriots go).... does that mean I'm a bandwagon fan of that team simply because I root for them? Thats ridiculous.

From a UF grad and diehard, no it doesn't make you a bandwagon fan. I like players on other teams, and will cheer for other teams in their respective bowl games. It doesn't mean I'm giving up on my beloved Orange and Blue, it just makes me a fan of the sport.

Wow, thought you were an SEC fan. I root for GA to win every game until we play them. I'd rather beat a ranked GA team than an unranked one. Guess you want to soften your schedule and beat under .500 teams like Hawaii.

I see your point about beating the ranked teams. However, I just can't stand Florida (probably has something to do with beating us 13 out of 15 or something like that and that gimmick offense Urban Meyer runs) and I really love watching them lose. It feels great to beat Florida ranked or not. The SEC is so tough anyways, it wouldn't matter if Florida was 0-11, it would still be tough to win the conference.

I do love the SEC. I usually root for the other teams in the SEC, except for Florida and Tennessee. There's nothing wrong with hating your rivals. You certainly don't see many people on this board talking about rooting for the Raiders when they're not playing the Broncos. Georgia/Florida is about the same kind of rivalry to those from around that area.

Don't get me wrong, I like to see the Dawgs lose too, especially to the Gators, but for instance, I will be rooting for them against Hawaii. I see your point in hating your rivals, and I'm not saying you should cheer for them, but I think it's better if they win most of their games so you can actually take a little pride in beating them. I don't think rivalry really exists in the NFL like it does in college. All of the big rivalries in the NFL seem to have fizzled out over the years due to all kinds of different reasons from the restructuring of divisions, to free agency and so on. In that sense, I think college ball is more pure, and enables rivalries to be sustained, especially conference rivals. The ranking system in college also helps perpetuate rivalry. I mean, how much pride would you take in beating an unranked team every year? The Broncos have been beating the Raiders pretty consistantly, but they have been just awful the last 3 or 4 years, so it's kind of hard to beat your chest when all you really did is beat one of the worst teams in football. Yeah, we all hate the Raiders, but it hasn't really been much of a rivalry in recent years. It's for the most part, the Raiders showing up and getting their @$$es handed to them twice a year.

I suppose you could say the same out UF/UGA, but GA still has a commanding lead on the series all time. The same could be said about UF/FSU as well, yeah, we've owned them the last 4 years, but they haven't really been that good, so I personally don't take too much pride in it. Yeah it gives sh*t talking rights, but again, that's like bragging about beating the Dolphins this year. Yeah you beat 'em but they're terrible, so you should have beat them.

Anyway, I see your point, but especially during bowl season, I root for all SEC teams. I like to see our teams show why the SEC is the toughest conference in the nation, and bowl season is the best time to do exactly that.

Can't wait to get revenge on you next year
